[23 November] After searching for "rob andrew press conference" on a well-known web search engine's news function, i found 494 articles, all unfavourable about Rob Andrew.
Interesting. I know nothing about the man except a story I heard about 1986, before professionalism came into the game, of stroking and tapping his Rolex at a post-match dinner in NZ, to emphasise the difference between the All Blacks and the tourists. (The All Blacks received a few hundred dollars per test match, to cover expenses). That was just hearsay and I discarded it as mere gossip. Now I am forced to wonder if there may have been some truth to the story and its character insights.
Anyway, I see the leaks are now happening. After 494 negative news reports, the previously-confidential reviews that blame the players and Martin Johnson are now exposed to the public gaze:

Andrew should go and go now. He is at best a poor administrator and at worst a moral coward. There is an unholy mess at the RFU and Andrew has to take his fair share of the blame. Do the honourable thing and resign or England supporters will mount a campaign to remove you!

rolf - the injustice felt by so many boys of all ages at the whole english rugby system is staggering. Everything in England is about knowing the right people, going to the right school and playing for the right club, anyone outside of that vendiagram will find doors closed more often than not. It should be the case that a country with such a large amount of players should be dominating world rugby but too many players seem to get to a high level just by being big, fit and well drilled instead of some genuinely talented players that I know fall by the wayside.

@gowalesgo - don't, misunderstand my comments as a defence of RA, just the introduction of a little balance. I didn't say that RA wanted to retain RA, merely that I don't believe that he had received the time necessary to implement his plan. It seems a matter of record that RA opposed the Johnson appointment (only he can know his motives) but what is a given is that every head coach/manager since SCW seems to have had his coaching staff imposed upon them which must be a handicap.

Mmmm like that. Performance should be rewarded, poor performance not. So who is running a book on how long Mr Andrew stays at the RFU. 6-4 on sounds generous to me. Lets start with a clean sheet, get rid of him too.

This article while well written, conveniently glosses over a few facts.
1. All the representative sides below the 1st team have an exellent record since he has been in charge. He appointed all those coaches.
2. He negotiated the EPS agreement, which while not perfect, is better than the no agreement that they had before he negotiated it.
3. Martin Johnson was appointed by the RFU board against Rob Andrews advice.
While I don't particularly care for Rob Andrew, what he has done below the first team has been excellent. As for the press conference, I thought that the "highly regarded broadsheet reporters" asked such absurdly asinine questions that really showed their incompetence as journalists that they got everything they deserved from him.

Good, hard-hitting journalism from PR and from someone who was obviously there and felt the atmosphere. All the more convincing as I have met the man (Andrew) a couple of times in Toulouse and immediately felt that aura of self-conceit and untouchability about him which was very off-putting. The accent doesn't help either.

Just to give the guy a small degree of credit, he was the DoR that took the Falcons to the premiership title before being whisked away by the RFU and, whilst it is true that the coaching choices within his tenure have all "failed" (a relative term based on expectation) I think I'm correct in understanding that he initially resisted the appointment of MJ and I still feel that Ashton left with unfinished business. The flipside of that was the fact that he was very much in charge the last time English players misbehaved in New Zealand when Johnson didn't travel with the squad.
The crux of all of this is that no-one seems to know what his role is, the cynic's view could be that discussion around his KPIs was avoided on the basis that Englands failure's were his and he didn't want to admit to them on the record. The charitable view could be that, with every one of his superiors falling on their sword he may not have any KPIs to be reviewed.
But lets not forget that Johnson was not a coach, nor a head coach, he was the "manager" and for the life of me I still do not know what that role involved and, given the fact that the other "common denominators" have been Mike Ford and John Wells, where he sat within the coaching hierarchy.
