James O'Connor will return to Australia in January after signing for the Reds and will be joined by cross-code star Karmichael Hunt.
The Reds ended months of speculation over the 24-year-old when they announced their squad for the new season, with O'Connor and Hunt the two major arrivals.
O'Connor is currently playing in France with Toulon, who he joined over the off-season after a spell with London Irish.
But he will return to Australia to play for his third Super Rugby franchise, after stints with the Force and the Rebels.
The versatile back, who is from Queensland originally, will stay in France for four months before returning in a bid to make the Wallabies' 2015 World Cup squad.
He is then expected to return to Toulon, with Bernard Laporte saying earlier this week that the clause in O'Connor's contract only allowed him to return for a six-month period and the club was already planning for his return.
He will be joined by Hunt, who is currently playing AFL for the Gold Coast Suns. Hunt made his name in rugby league playing for the Brisbane Broncos and also had a spell playing union for Biarritz.
