Openside flanker Liam Gill has swapped the Wallabies for Australia Sevens having been named in the Commonwealth Games squad.
New coach Geraint Jones has selected Gill, and fellow XVs flanker Sean McMahon of the Rebels, as part of his posse of players for next month's Games in Glasgow.
Reds openside Gill holds a silver medal from the Delhi Games four years ago, while McMahon's last sevens outing came during last year.
The pair were set to be joined by flying winger Luke Morahan of the Force, but a hamstring problem has prevented his involvement.
Whether both will remain chiefly sevens players after Glasgow has yet to be decided.
"Nothing's been confirmed (post Glasgow)," Andrew Fagan, the ARU's general manager of national teams and competitions told Fairfax.
"(But) Allowances have been provided under our high performance agreement with the Super Rugby teams that with this being an Olympic qualification year, we have access to some players up to the end of December.
"Essentially the alignment of access to players for the national Sevens team is the same way they're aligned to the Wallabies.
"But Geraint needs to settle in, take a squad to the Commonwealth Games and get a feel for how he wants the balance of that squad looking."
