Kurtley Beale: Code switch?

Reports in Australia suggest that Wallabies back Kurtley Beale my be on the verge of a switch to Rugby League.

The Sunday Telegraph reports that the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have approached Beale about a stint in the NRL in 2015 - a move that would rob the Wallabies of Beale's versatility ahead of next year's World Cup.

Beale has been playing inside centre for the Super Rugby table-topping Waratahs and played off the bench for Australia in the Junes Test series against France.

The 25-year-old has, however, openly stated his preference to play at fly-half - a position which is currently occupied at both the Waratahs and Wallabies by Bernard Foley.

It is now believed that the 42-cap Test star is weighing up whether to persevere in 15-man code until the World Cup or make the switch to the NRL.

Bulldogs coach Des Hasler was spotted watching the Waratahs last Sunday and it understood to have held talks with Beale, whose career has been hampered by a number off-field indiscretions.

Beale has previously admitted he has a desire to return to League, which he played as a schoolboy.

"It's always lingering in the back of my mind," Beale said in January last year.

"I'm a massive fan of rugby league and I played it all my junior career and I'm always switching channels to watch it on the weekend.

"Hopefully later on, in the years to come, I will be able to put my hand up and have a crack at it."
