Julian Savea and Kieran Read NZ training 2014

Close to a return: Julian Savea and Kieran Read

New Zealand number eight Kieran Read and wing Julian Savea could be available to face England in Saturday's second Test in Dunedin.

That was the word from All Blacks coach Steve Hansen, who said that Savea "should be okay" after after shaking off the knee injury that kept him on the sidelines during Saturday's 20-15 victory in Auckland.

Read has shown encouraging signs in his battle with concussion but Hansen said he would not risk the IRB's 2013 Player of the Year unless he has made a full recovery.

"Kieran is training pretty well at the moment," said Hansen.

"He did an hour and a half yesterday with no signs or symptoms, so its just a matter of, with his lack of games, whether we chuck him back in or do the safer thing and give him a week of training and hold him back and save him for the third test.

"It'd be nice to have him because he's a great player but we have to think about the whole year, and him. We'll make that decision once we get down to Dunedin. We'll get Monday out of the way and Tuesday then we'll have a far better idea."

Hansen said Savea's knee was recovering well and provided it doesnt flare up again when he runs he will come into the selection mix for the second Test.

He's feeling a lot better," he added.

"Again, we will have to wait and see what he's like once he starts running on that knee."

The All Blacks only other injury concern is fullback Israel Dagg who injured his thigh and came off early in the second half in Auckland.

Hansen said the injury was related to a patella knee problem Dagg's had for the past month," explained Hansen.

"He's been playing on it and it only really effects his kicking. That's something we'll look at this week and decide whether we need to keep pushing that and limiting his training load on it, or we make some changes and let him have a week off and get it right."
