Wayne Pivac: Will be succeeded by Paul Feeney

Auckland coach Wayne Pivac has resigned from his position to take up a post with PRO12 outfit the Scarlets.

Pivac, who has been in charge of Auckland for the past two seasons, taking them to the ITM Cup final in 2012 and the semi-finals in 2013, will be the Scarlets' new assistant coach.

Previously he had coached Auckland from 1999 to 2003, winning New Zealand's National Provincial Championship on three occasions.

He will be succeeded by the current assistant coach, Paul Feeney.

Auckland Rugby Union CEO Andy Dalton said the union is sad to see Pivac leave.

"Wayne has been a great contributor to Auckland Rugby and has made significant improvements to our team throughout the time he's been with us," he told Auckland's official website.

"But we recognise his aspirations and, with limited opportunities to secure a Super Rugby head coaching position, understand his desire to take on this new challenge. We wish him every success in Wales."

Pivac will leave Auckland in the coming weeks and take up his position in Llanelli in June.

Feeney will take the reins of the ITM Cup team, after serving as Pivac's assistant for two seasons.

"Paul has an impressive rugby résumé and has worked extensively with both the ITM Cup squad and a large number of the up and coming players in the Auckland Rugby Academy," added Dalton.

"We are delighted that he will step up into this role and are confident that we have, in Paul, one of the most talented coaches in the country."

Scarlets Head Coach Simon Easterby is excited by the prospect of working with Pivac.

"We are delighted that Wayne Pivac is joining our set-up at Parc y Scarlets next season," Easterby told the Scarlets' official website.

"His broad level of experience across national coaching, Sevens and expertise as a proven forwards coach, particularly in the breakdown area, will strengthen our coaching team here and give a wider dimension to our rugby group.

"His breath of experience across the game set him apart from others and we look forward to his input working alongside myself, Mark Jones, specialist scrum coach Danny Wilson and our kicking coach Mark Tainton.

"We took our time and looked carefully in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres for someone we believed would fit in well, compliment the skills and knowledge we already have and really add something new to Scarlets Rugby going forward next season.

Easterby, who flew out to New Zealand recently to finalise Pivac's move to West Wales added: "He comes highly recommended to us from the players and fellow coaches that we have spoken to and I was able to spend some time with him in New Zealand and his coaching credentials on paper matched up with what I saw in person.

"This is a very exciting appointment for the Scarlets, and for us as a coaching group - bringing in someone new to join us with fresh ideas, ambition and a wealth of experience.

"I am looking forward to working closely with Wayne and I am sure he will work well with our group of players and fit in quickly with life here at Parc y Scarlets."
