Reds boss Richard Graham was overjoyed with the spirit shown by his squad after getting their season back on track against the Stormers.
A tricky tour of South Africa ended with losses to the Sharks and the Lions, amidst some issues with the officials and injuries to key players including Liam Gill and Aidan Toua.
But the Reds responded in Brisbane, putting away the Stormers thanks to 17 points from the boot of Quade Cooper to hold on at the end.
Graham highlighted the fatigue of travelling back from South Africa in the week, along with the events that unfolded in the Republic, and praised his squad's handling of the situation.
The Reds are back again at Suncorp next weekend to take on the rising Western Force.
"It was a great win, it was outstanding. On the back of the travel and the shortened week I thought we showed a lot of character," said Graham.
"I'm just really proud of the group.
"We'll recover really well and prepare well, but I guess the challenge for us is to continue improving each week in the way we want to play.
"Next week will be a good opportunity for us, having had a full week of preparation."
