Blues prop Charlie Faumuina wants to arrest his side's slow start to Super Rugby as they prepare to travel to face the Lions.
The Blues went down to the Bulls in Pretoria last week, and continue their South African tour minus veteran hooker Keven Mealamu, the All Black having picked up a calf injury.
"We get behind and then there is too much ground to make up," Faumuina told Sportal.
"The Lions will be the same as other South African sides. They will be a little bit direct, will maul well and have a pretty good scrum.
"They like to run it a bit, and especially if they get good ball off the top of the lineout.
"We've got to make sure we hold onto the ball. We've been making too many errors and we need to make sure we get out of our own half and play the game in theirs."
