Dan Biggar passing for Wales

In-form ten: Dan Biggar

Fly-half Dan Biggar wants to crack the nod to start for Wales when they face Australia at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday week.

Biggar, who has handed the reins in their 40-6 win over Argentina in Cardiff, is battling with Rhys Priestland for the starting jersey next weekend.

It's thought James Hook will start against Tonga so as to give all three Welsh number tens a fair opportunity to impress coach Warren Gatland.

However, Hook is unavailable for the Wallaby match as his Top 14 club Perpignan has recalled him for their return to domestic action, so Biggar and Priestland are battling it out for November 30.

"Selection is out of my control," Biggar said.

"It is about putting in as good a performance as you can. I would love to play against Australia, but there is still lots to work on.

"Australia is the big one, the one in which we have got a really good chance of picking up a win against a southern hemisphere big-three team.

"Our record against those countries isn't good and we want to start putting that right, but we've got Tonga to consider first. It's important we get another win and keep the momentum going this week leading into the game with Australia.

"I have got another week or so to harden my case, whether it is by playing against Tonga or in training. I know it's a cliche, but I am taking it one game at a time.

"We haven't had a comfortable game against the Pacific Islands nations for a number of years. We lost to Samoa last year and drew with Fiji in 2010.

"We don't want to stall now, we want another win and to keep the momentum going. We are looking for another good performance."
