Young backs Goode response

Andy Goode Wasps 2013

Backed: Andy Goode

London Wasps director of rugby Dai Young is confident that veteran fly-half Andy Goode will bounce back from his early-season missed kicks.

The 33-year-old is ranked second on the Premiership's all-time goal-kicking charts, but has suffered from poor form in the league thus far with the boot.

Following an agonising game-deciding missed conversion on the opening day of the season, Goode failed to hit the target with another crucial late kick at Sale Sharks, and was wide of the mark with all four of his conversion attempts in the heavy victory over Worcester Warriors.

However, Young has backed his experienced pivot to start racking up the points again.

"His record speaks for itself. It's not for the want of working on it because obviously he feels very strongly about his kicking game," said the Director of Rugby, talking to the Bucks Free Press.

"It's been excellent for him over the years and hopefully after [Worcester] you won't see too many more of them.

"But that's what happens with kickers - on occasions things don't go well and certainly it wasn't one of his better days.

"But I thought his kicking out of hand was excellent.

"It's a real boost to the team when you're deep inside your 22 and you clear your lines and the forwards are jogging past the halfway line."
