Kohn answers Wales call

Olly Kohn Harlequins 2012

Called up: Olly Kohn

Harlequins lock Olly Kohn has been called into the Wales squad for the forthcoming Six Nations Championship.

Kohn, who is uncapped at international level, is one of the most experienced and respected second-row forwards playing in the Aviva Premiership. The 31-year-old committed his future to Harlequins a fortnight ago when he signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him with the club until the end of 2013/14.

Kohn joined Harlequins from Bristol in July 2006 and made his debut in the pre-season friendly with Clermont that summer. He has since made 135 appearances for the current Premiership champions and has scored four tries.

"We are delighted that Olly has been called into the Wales squad and look forward to him receiving a first international cap in the forthcoming Six Nations Championship," said Harlequins director of rugby Conor O'Shea.

Agree that Kohn is waaay better than Charteris. ...Who isn't? My long dead granny (god bless) is better than luke charteris. So is my hamster George, My mate's six year old daughter, Gismo the mogwai and a rubber spider attached to a small stick by a peice of cotton. In fact, to be prefectly frank, I think offering the Ollie Kohn the job is blatent overkill. Give the job to Rob Brydon. He's better than Luke Charis AND, as an added bonus, He's Welsh!

?? Well, this is a suprise. Not that the Welsh have called him up to their squad but if he does qualify for Wales, why have they taken so long? He is a big unit and a solid performer. IMO would be ahead of some of the locks that have played for Wales recently (Davies, Chateris?). Ian Evans has been injured quite a lot and AW Jones has been well below par on his form. Khon is a very nice to have for Wales and should feature for them if they have any sense.

He's not injured, so he could well be the future for at least 20 years!

I believe i read somewhere last week that it turned out Percival didn't have a welsh grandparent on closer examination so he was ruled out (we obvs check records in a bit more detail these days lol)

James Percival is 29 and is currently denying Dean Schofield a starting place and has taken on the captaincy of Worcester as a result. Percy has also made the most tackles in the prem this season (140) which is very good for a lock.

James Pervical has also expressed his desire and qualifications for Wales ,he's another big unit.

@melkdave

I total agree he's not the future especially since he's 31! However, like you say, great filler player. Very underrated but will add some much in both the loose play, in the hard yards, and especially in the scrum.

A very under rated player ,and one that does the basics very well,he also adds ecperiance and bulk to the welsh scrum ,and does his job there well imo.A good call fdor Wales for the 6Ns although i dont see him being the future ,but given the injuries atm to welsh locks ,he definatly is worth his place.

Solid player and a safe option for Wales. He's big, does the basics well and carries the ball effectively in heavy traffic.

Having watched hmi play for the last few years, you've gotta ask yourself what took WRU so long to call him up, a very under-rated player.
