South African lock Sebastian de Chaves has signed for Leicester Tigers for next season from Top 14 strugglers Mont-de-Marsan.
According to the Leicester Mercury, De Chaves is set to join the Tigers as a replacement for fellow South African lock Rob Andrew, as opposed to England second row Geoff Parling who is out of contract at the end of this season.
The 22-year old moved to France at the beginning of the last season and has been in impressive form despite his side's dismal run in the Top 14, that sees them ten points adrift at the bottom of the table.
The 6ft 6in lock made the announcement via his Twitter account on Sunday and is eligible to play for South Africa, England and Portugal.
De Chaves played for South Africa during the U20 World Championship back in 2010 and has signed a two-year deal with Leicester.

They laugh at us English, yet I worry about what's driving their players away? Is it really that awful living in SA? Why don't players want to play for them at a national level? Embarassment? Shame? Who knows..?
Kockott's another example of a SA mercenary on the hunt for a national team:
"I'm still very young and I'd like to have an international career. Here (in France) or in my country," he said. "I have three or four years left to achieve that."
Where's the national pride there then?
I suggest that says a lot more about SA than it does about the countries these players are leaving for.
@ pikes - you may be ranked #1 for Tests, but we're #1 for ODIs and we're above you in T20. And give us a short while and we'll wrestle the Test mantle back too.

@lawynd & @ TVaddict - and of those second rows that are left, Parling, Deacon, Slater & Kitchener (along with Croft) are all in the international squads, which is going to leave us a bit short at lock. Tigers are always going to require a bigger squad because so many of the team is away at international time.

@TVaddict - of that six, Joe Cain is unproven at AP level so far and Rob Andrew was obviously just a stop-gap signing. That leaves Kitchener, Deacon (who at 32 is not going to go on forever), Parling and Slater, so once Andrew leaves it'll be the same numbers.
