Glasgow up to second spot

Two tries: Stuart Hogg

Glasgow moved up to second spot in the RaboDirect PRO12 standings after defeating Treviso 41-7 in a one-sided affair at Scotstoun Stadium on Friday.

The visitors could not have made a worse start to the game as they conceded an early three points to the boot of Ruaridh Jackson and had Fijian-born flanker Manoa Vosawai sent off for a spear tackle on Al Kellock, all inside the opening six minutes.

Unsurprisingly, they never recovered and the Warriors were three quarters of the way to a try bonus point by half-time.

After Jackson had slotted his second penalty of the evening, the Scottish side's backs began to enjoy themselves and exploit the space afforded them, which led to two tries in the space of just a few minutes.

DTH van der Merwe grabbed his eighth try of the season after a chip ahead bounced kindly for him and that was followed by a try for 20-year-old full-back Stuart Hogg in the right-hand corner after a good run from Ryan Wilson.

Tommy Seymour then made sure every single member of the Glasgow back three had a try to their name as he intercepted a pass with the final play of the half and sprinted the length of the field to make it 27-0 at the interval.

Treviso at least deserve credit for battling hard in the second half and frustrating their opponents as they scored an early try through lock Francesco Minto and forced the Warriors to wait until well into the final ten minutes to finally secure the bonus point.

Fijian scrum-half Nikola Matawalu was the man to get the crucial score and his try was followed almost immediately by a second of the evening for Hogg as the hosts added some extra gloss to the scoreline in the process of moving up to second in the table.
