Edinburgh boss Michael Bradley wants his side to win Friday's 1872 Cup clash with Glasgow Warriors to claim local bragging rights.
Glasgow host Edinburgh in the PRO12 encounter at the Scotstoun Stadium and want to retain the trophy, which is decided by aggregate scores over two matches.
The return fixture is on December 29.
But Bradley said his players are highly motivated and want to avenge their defeat from earlier this year.
"After the game at Firhill (in January) the Glasgow players weren't shy in letting us know they'd won it. We want to reverse that and that's what it's about," he told Press Association Sport.
"It's going to be very close. Both sides will be strong on the day and I've no idea how it's going to go, but I hope we win.
"They're derby matches, it's going to be a battle. We're looking forward to it."
Bradley is yet to decide on the role of captain Greig Laidlaw who has been bracketed to start at either scrum-half or fly-half.
The experienced half-back's role in the side depends on whether Scotland centre Nick De Luca passes a fitness test on Thursday. If he is fit then Laidlaw will feature at scrum-half, if not he will play in the pivot position.
Bradley admitted that De Luca and Laidlaw are important players for Edinburgh and said he is confident his skipper will do well regardless of the position he will be playing.
"The common trait is the fact they're very good footballers, they're intelligent," he added.
"I think Greig could play full-back equally as well.
"When you have a good footballer like him you want him involved in as much of the game as you possibly can. He'll be competent at nine and/or 10."
