White: 'Great honour to coach Australia'

World Cup-winning coach Jake White has made it clear that he does not want to displace Robbie Deans or jump any queue for the Wallabies coaching job.
The Brumbies mentor coach was quoted last week as saying it would be a ''dream job'' to coach Australia.
However, White has now changed his tune, stating he didn't want to oust Deans and wasn't trying to push himself ahead of heir apparent Ewen McKenzie.
''To be fair it was a bit of a difficult (question) to put to me because I coach a franchise in Australia where all players are basically eligible to play for their country,'' White told AAP.
''But I have no ambitions of taking Robbie Deans' job or jumping in front of the queue in front of everybody.
''I have a job to do (with the Brumbies) and if that means that you get earmarked for greater things then that is fantastic.''
At the moment Deans seems to have held onto his job. And with the British and Irish Lions approaching in 2013, it may be silly for the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) to to change their head coach at this point.
However the Lions tour may be the last opportunity for Deans to keep his job, and White admitted - that as a fellow coach of an Australian rugby franchise - it would be wrong for him not to show interest in coaching the Wallabies.
''If I coach in a country like (Australia) you've got to buy into the fact that you're in this country and you're doing it hammer and tongs," he said.
"So it would be a great honour.
"Any guy who is in coaching who says he wouldn't want to coach one of the best sides in the world is dreaming.
''So it is obviously something like that I would look at, but at this point in time I'm with the Brumbies and my job is to make sure I produce Wallabies.''

The IRB should impose a rule that your coach has to be of the same nation. It wont be long until Rugby is like football. How can you cheer on a player/coach from another nation!!!! The whole point is to compete against the other team, not take the other teams players into your team. JW is a good coach, he is proving that, but he is a Saffa and has represented the Springboks and won a RWC. DONT COACH THE AUSSIES!! COME BACK TO THE BOKKE!!

"@chocol. Pocock is from Zim but he was born in Musina (formerly Messina) South Africa.."
Sooooo explain your "All Pacific" theory?
Is the like Julian Savea is born in New Zealand?
Like Ma'a Allan Nonu is in New Zealand?
Hell all of the current team appart from Ben Franks and Tawera Kerr-Barlow were born in NZ
Love it when your hypocritical

melkdave-dude our position in the rankings isnt the problem-we should be killing the NH teams (even with our 2nd/3rd string teams at the end of a long season) but we aint-simple as that. italy was the catalyst for my change in opinion-a close game that shouldnt have been.the loss against france i can take as they can beat anyone-when they want to.

How does this man manage to attach his name to every international position going, in this case when the position isn't even available (unfortunately imo) .. and has he not learned from the failed Robbie Deans appointment that its the manor in which the Wallabies play the game as well as the results that count - Deans copped flack from fans and media last year even after winning the Tri-Nations criticizing the style of play so White's not going to fair any better. Anyway, if the post comes up it surely has to go to Ewen McKenzie!

If White takes over the Wallabies, they are going to win the WC. Look what he did with a no name Brumbies team. With and attitude like that and some really good tactical plays with aid of Larkhan and Grega, they will be really good.

actually Pocock is from Zim. If Zim could keep players they'd be a pretty good test side.

I think Australia are just going to need to admit that their golden era is over for a while! Has been for some time in all honesty!
And before anyone gives me crap for being English and saying that I know that apart from 2002/03 England haven't had a golden era!
But I know good rugby when I see it (NZ play it) and Australia can't live with that.
So does it matter who coaches them really?

Why would anyone want to coach Australia ,as far as i can see its a thankless task.Even when your squad is decimated by injuries ,and you still manage to keep Australia 2nd in the IRB rankings .The media and some supporters are calling for your head,All because NZ are usually the number one team ,and have been for going on 30 odd years now, with just a few momentary blips along the way.The Australian supporters should just grow up,anf be thankfull, that atm they have such a capable coach imo.Given the ARU is a waste of space when it comes to developing local talant, and the game in Australia.
