Anscombe warning for unbeaten Ulster

Ulster boss Mark Anscombe warned his unbeaten side that they will have to improve against Northampton in the Heineken Cup on Friday.

Ulster are yet to lose this season in all competitions but needed an interception try from Andrew Trimble to beat the Scarlets on Sunday.

Anscombe knows that if Ulster are to maintain their impressive start, they will have to improve at Franklin's Gardens this week.

"It didn't feel like a win against the Scarlets and was pretty disappointing," Anscombe told ercrugby.com.

"It was a poor game of rugby from both teams. We did enough to set up a platform to take the game. But we didn't look after the ball, we gave away too many silly penalties, played dumb rugby and were inaccurate.

"They're wins but I'm not taking a lot of comfort from the way we're playing. We have better players than our performances are indicating.

"Some guys had an opportunity to put their hands up for selection and they didn't take it and will be missing out next week.

"We know we have a lot to do between now and next Friday or we will get our backsides kicked in Northampton.

"We have only five days to turn it around and have to get back on our feet. We don't have a lot of time so it will be up to individuals to execute better than against the Scarlets."

"I've never been to Franklin's Gardens but I understand it's a difficult place to go. They had a very impressive win on Friday, their pack is strong and they play to their strengths. They will be pretty confident after seeing our game on TV."
