Australia lock Rob Simmons has been cited for a dangerous tackle on France flank Yannick Nyanga during his team's 33-6 loss in Paris.

If found guilty, the Wallabies forward will miss the tourists' second game of their European tour against England at Twickenham on Saturday.

The incident occurred in the 65th minute, when Simmons hit the French flanker with a late, lifting tackle shortly after replacing captain Nathan Sharpe.

Nyanga spilled a bomb before Simmons picked the Frenchman up and drove him into the turf with the flanker landing heavily on his back.

Luckily for Simmons, neither referee Nigel Owens or his two assistants, could pick up the number of the tackler with the referee telling acting stand-in captain Stephen Moore his side was very lucky they didn't see who made the tackle.

The hearing will be held on either on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The rules is simple, lift the opposing players legs above the horizontal in the tackle and you are guilty...

I dont think it was a stomp more like removing dandruff by the sounds of it.

The only negative for New Zealand came when Adam Thomson was sin-binned for stamping on Alasdair Strokosch's head, but the Scot insisted there should be no further sanction.

"I would say the yellow card's fine. I wouldn't take it any further. It wasn't a big deal," said Strokosch.

I to thought he should have had a ban as well. The Abs don't need Thomson he is a bit of a hot head.

Your passion for all things walaby is admirable. But there is no way in hell you can defend that tackle LOLOLIt is as blantant as B.Davies tackle last 6Ns against Ireland .Its dangerous and a straight RED card .Afraid R.Simmions tour is over ,that is a 4-6 week ban ,we dont give pansey arse half hearted bans in the NH like your used to in the SH.

Love the negative write up on this site (as always for Australia !!!), "late lifting tackle" ?? Simmons was committed to the tackle, he had no idea the ball had gone it wasn't late. "picked the Frenchman up and drove him into the turf" ?? he made a tackle. "landing heavily on his back" it's rugby, ACC had the same happen to him in the first half, but he also didn't go passed the horizontal.

Did Nyanga go past the horizontal ? No.The ref reacted to the crowd, hence none of the officals picking up a number for what looked like a good tackle.

I wouldn't be too surprised if Simmons gets off.

wheres the citing for the kiwi 6? surely stamping on someones head deserves more than a yellow?

Surprise, surprise... R. Simmons replacing N.Sharpe in the game. Why... How come? Grandpa N.Sharpe ran out of legs and gas. What a shame for R. Deans to take his captain out midway in the game. Lets get rid of R.Deans and N..Sharpe..

just saw it. not that bad, he lifts him fairly high because rob is massive then places him on the ground on his back, didnt drop him dangerously or anything. if he gets banned then it will be sad day for rugby
