Ankle injury: Stephen Ferris

Ireland have been dealt yet another substantial injury blow with the news that flanker Stephen Ferris is set to miss the game against South Africa.

Ferris hobbled from the action of his provincial side's victory over Edinburgh at Ravenhill with an ankle problem and is set to be out for a month.

The news comes as a setback for Ireland coach Declan Kidney, who is already without Brian O'Driscoll and Rory Best during November.

Following the game against South Africa, Ireland face Argentina two weeks later while an Irish XV will tackle Fiji in Limerick in between the Tests.

Lets see the upside, all these injuries mean even Kidney cant avoid trying something new.

Definitely worth throwing Henderson in. He is a great prospect

Bad news. However the boks have far more injury concerns. Oosthuizen, Bismarck, Bekker, Brussow, burger, smith, spies, goosen, habana, frans steyn. Now THAT'S bad. 8 or 9 of these are usually in the 1st XV....

@melkdave

To be fair, Ferris wasn't really pushed out. It's just a better overall solution to having two good players of a similar type.

Henderson is good enough for Kidney to risk playing him I think and he's in a position where we have depth and experience. It's the other positions without them that Kidney is afraid to risk anything, unfortunately, to the detriment of the future Irish team.

That's tough. Then again no panic in England camp with many out: Corbisiero, Hartley, Lawes, Croft, Turner-Hall, Joseph, Foden, Ashton. Down 3 hookers.

I have also been very impressed with Jordi Murphy he kept Warburton quiet last week and was excellent at the breakdown. I say give youth its chance. If your good enough you old enough.

Ah sure we're only missing O'Driscoll, Kearney, O'Brien, Fitzgerald, Best and O'Connell and Healy are doubtful. Thats 4 former lions, two lions captains and the last two ERC players of the year. It'll be fine...

Thats bad news indeed,however i would now be very tempted to give Henderson a runout,He has looked in form for Ulster so much in fact that they have been playng Ferris at 8,so Henerson can play.Anyone who can push a player like S.Ferris close for the 6 jersey deserves a look at ,at least imo.Question will be is Kidney brave enough to take a gamble ,or will he be his usual staid conservative self.I hope he takes the gamble myself ,but we all know what his like.
