Ireland have called in Munster prop Stephen Archer to their training squad at Carton House outside Maynooth ahead of their game against the Boks.

The 24-year-old was on the Munster coach on Friday as it took the squad to Cardiff Airport after their 24-18 victory over Cardiff Blues, when he heard the news from Munster's Team Manager.

Archer will join Dave Kilcoyne, Paul O'Connell, Donncha O'Callaghan, Donnacha Ryan, Peter O'Mahony, Conor Murray, Ronan O'Gara, Keith Earls and Simon Zebo as Munster's November representatives in Co Kildare on Sunday.

Ocallahan, Earls, ogara, is the world gone mad????? None of these should be in the squad! Why hasnt Earls put on 2 stone of muscle in last 5 years as the game has moved on, i wager Conway is a better winger and he also is too small, Ryan has to play second row for us to win. Paul doran jones is best irish prop in years vut Irfu f ed that up as usual not playing at provincial level but good enough to pack down for England what a joke. Our ten has to engage the bock defence and Rog doesnt do that in Rabo. Madagan a better choice being truthful. Or Ian Hunohries

No ryan doesnt have to start at 6 the pack should be healy strauss ross o connell tuohy o'mahoney heaslip and i seem to recall keatley and madigan have started more for the provences this season than o gara and sexton so i dont see how he can not select either of them... and most people probably wouldnt have o callaghan playing ail rugby never mind ireland

@rockman Archer had a big game against Cardiff on Friday, was very good in scrum. And although Archer isnt the best tighthead i've never seen him demolished up front in the same way Hagan has been for the last few seasons.

Sadly for all the good things Kidney does, he has the unfortunite habit of shooting himself in the foot as soon as someone has the misfortune to get injured. Maybe the man should only be judged on his inability to have a serious plan B when required......which seems to all the time of late!

@paddy

I don't think you would get great odds on the list of Munster players you mentioned would be in the match-day squad.

All except O' Callaghan, and arguably O'Gara, would be in most peoples squad. O' Callaghan will get in as there is no one else, now that Ryan must start at 6.

O'Gara will get in as there is no one else that you would trust if Sexton gets injured in the 1st minute, not Keatley and deffo not Madigan........neither are 1st choice at province so they wont be thrown in against Tri-nations team

Paddy91317. . . . .I know mon, Haggers, Madders, Kearners. . . they're just the best, like, ever. I mean come on, a prop that's not even from near Lonster? Kill me now!

@ mcdb06 you say 'Open your eyes and look at the situation before jumping to the conclusion that every decision is pro Munster and anti-every other province' yet you say archer is better than Hagan who ' is easily the worst scrummaging prop in Ireland'. did you not see Hagan in action yesterday? He way out scrummaged his opposite number Duncan jones, who has 50+ wales caps so in by no means an inexperienced pleayer. It appears you need to open your eyes and look at the situation.

@paddy91317 Agreed that Kidney does favour Munster players when they're clearly not worthy of starting places anymore. And it is ridiculously frustrating. But your rant is over the top. Hagan is easily the worst scrummaging prop in Ireland. Gets pummeled up front in most matches. Dont think Archer is great but he's better than Hagan.

As for picking Hurley over Dave Kearney, i doubt Kidney has any intention of playing Hurley. But even still Dave Kearney was injured and hasnt played much. And both Murray and Marshall are in the squad. Marshall is class but doesnt get to play at 9 enough because of Ruan Pienaar. Until that happens his chances of being 1st choice scrum half for Ireland is slim.

Open your eyes and look at the situation before jumping to the conclusion that every decision is pro Munster and anti-every other province

That is a complete joke archer is probably the worst scrummaging props at tighthead i have ever seen to even consider him of jamie hagan who has played well every time he has played is a load of bollox first of all he includes a prop who hasnt even played for his provence them he picks a disgrace of a prop like archer ah to hell with kidney and his ireland time this is no longer a team to have pride in its a farce designed by the irfu and kidney to promote munster and keep a tunnel eyed view on all the other provences... im sorry but look at all the bogey decitions this coach done and they are all to do with pro munster .... o gara over madigan.... hurley over dave kearney.... archer over hagan... murray over marshal.... i wont be suprised if he names o gara as captain and comes up with some excuse like we needed the experience just so he can start his aul pal ronan.... il put money of ireland match day squad including o connell o callaghan ryan o mahoney murray o gara earls zebo ..... and i dont care if i come across as an anti munster yob you all know its true this coach is so biased to munster players taking all the pride i once had for our national team away
