Tiesi: Rewarded for domestic form

Former Harlequins and Stade Francais centre Gonzalo Tiesi has been recalled to the Argentina squad for November's tour of Europe.

Tiesi, who also played for London Irish, won the last of his 29 caps against England at the 2011 World Cup - with the 27-year-old's tournament ended by injury.

Tiesi also missed the inaugural Rugby Championship, however he has been rewarded for his fine form for San Isidro Club with a place in the tour party.

Argentina, who will play Wales (November 10), France (November 17) and Ireland (November 24), will be without the retired Rodrigo Roncero and the injured Martin Rodriguez.

"We face the challenge of three more demanding matches, on tour playing as visitors," said coach Santiago Phelan.

"We have to keep growing as we did in the Rugby Championship albeit against other rivals... and I'm keen to do it well."

Phelan's team had a creditable debut in the Rugby Championship even if they failed to register a win in their six matches.

Argentina squad:

Forwards: Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe (Toulon, captain), Leonardo Senatore (Gimnasia Rosario), Juan Manuel Leguizamon (Lyon), Tomas Leonardi (SIC), Julio Farias Cabello (Tucuman), Tomas de la Vega (CUBA), Patricio Albacete (Toulouse), Manuel Carizza (Jockey Club Rosario), Marcos Ayerza (Leicester Tigers), Agustin Creevy (Montpellier), Juan Figallo (Montpellier), Eusebio Guinazu (unaffiliated), Bruno Postiglioni (La Plata), Francisco Gomez Codela (Biarritz)

Backs: Joaquin Tuculet (Grenoble), Santiago Cordero (Regatas Bella Vista), Horacio Agulla (Bath), Juan Jose Imhoff (Racing Metro), Manuel Montero (Pucara), Gonzalo Camacho (Exeter), Marcelo Bosch (Biarritz), Gonzalo Tiesi (SIC), Juan Martin Hernandez (Racing Metro), Nicolas Sanchez (Bordeaux-Begles), Nicolas Vergallo (Toulouse), Martin Landajo (CASI), Tomas Cubelli (Belgrano Athletic)

Looks a good squad ,and will test everyone this aurtum imo,Quite a few new names there at least to me lol, nice to see some depth to pumas rugby.Also@Connaughtabu agree with you ,going to be a big test for Ireland ,and tbh atm ,i couldnt say who would win .The pumas showed they can live with the best in the RC and really should have won 2 matches ,one against the wallabies and annother against the bokke..

The game against the Pumas is an important yardstick for Ireland. Firstly, it will sort world rankings - Ireland and Argentina are currently ranked 8th and 9th, respectively. Secondly, it may show if participation in the SH tournament (the World Championship!) has toughened up the Argentinians. Playing Australia, South Africa and New Zealand home and away in the space of a few weeks should sharpen up anyone's game! :-))
