Former England captain Bill Beaumont was on Wednesday elected as chairman of the Six Nations Council.
Beaumont, who lost out to France's Bernard Lapasset in his bid to become president of the International Rugby Board last December, succeeds David Pickering of Wales.
His three-year term of office begins immediately.
Ireland's Pat Whelan was elected as Six Nations vice-chairman, also with immediate effect. The pair were named in their new positions at a meeting of Six Nations organisers in Rome.
"It is a privilege to be involved with the biggest annual rugby competition in the world," said Beaumont.
"I would like to thank the outgoing chairman, David Pickering, for his work over the last four years, and I look forward to working with him and the rest of the council."

this is really good news ... he'll be in the right place when england get kicked out over something trivial like cutting the crusts of their sandwiches or expecting a fair share of TV revenues, good on ya Bill ;-)
