New Zealand v Australia: Hansen keen on new laws

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen wants his team's third Bledisloe Cup Test - which will take place in Brisbane in October - to be played under the experimental law variations.

The two main new rule changes are a shortened scrum engagement and the limit of five seconds for the ball to be cleared from the back of a ruck.

These laws are already being used in the ITM Cup and also in the new northern hemisphere season.

With New Zealand winning the two earlier Bledisloe Cup matches earlier this year the Brisbane will be a dead rubber which will take place after the completion of the Rugby Championship.

After that both teams head to Europe where they will undertake their annual end-of-year tours.

Hansen believes the schedule made it logical to adopt the experimental rules when his side face the Wallabies at Suncorp Stadium.

"We've asked for that," he told AAP.

"It makes sense. Both teams are going to the northern hemisphere, where they are already playing those rules, so commonsense would suggest that we should play under them."

Hansen said it was a case of wait and see as to what the authorities decided, but believed the Wallabies would be in favour.

"I'm pretty sure Australia will be keen as we are."

here is the answer:

"Australia have backed away from plans to play next week's Bledisloe Cup test against the All Blacks under the new rules being trialled in New Zealand's national provincial championship. The rules, designed to speed up the game, are also being trialled in Europe and will be used during the test window up there when southern hemisphere teams tour. The Bledisloe Cup test was seen as an opportunity for the Wallabies and All Blacks to get a grip on the rulings before they tour."

Another progressive and forward-thinking decision?

kiwilad - don't know about that. eg Andrew Hore - 40 minutes ITM this season

Most have not turned out once for their provincial side in 2012..

Seems logical given that both teams will be heading off to the NH shortly after the Brisbane match.

Maybe it's just me but the ELVs appear to have sped up the ITM matches that I've watched. The ball seems to be in play a lot more and more trys are being scored.

Also in NZs favour will be that a fair few AB players will have played ITM cup and will cope a little better than the Aussies, but I doubt Steve thought about that????
