Six months out for Genia

09th September 2012 09:42

Will Genia will miss the remainder of the Rugby Championship and will be sidelined for at least six months after rupturing the ACL in his right knee.

Genia's injury follows that of regular captain James Horwill (hamstring) and the man who replaced him, David Pocock (knee), who were both already ruled out for the rest of the series.

The scrum-half, who underwent scans on Sunday at a Perth hospital, will be replaced for the match against Argentina on the Gold Coast next Saturday by veteran half-back Brett Sheehan.

"I took the high ball, it twisted and I heard a few cracks," Genia recalled after the 26-19 victory.

Nathan Sharpe is set to assume the captaincy.

No, we don't have the numbers as you kiwis or saffas to support 5 teams, maybe 4.

But I don't care too much for the other four teams !!!

Trouble is you have made so many things up in the past before nobody knows if they can believe you or not. Just like the boy who kept crying "wolf"

What no comment - although I see some of your usual drivel on some other posts but again you shy away from the real issues. Do you believe Oz can support 5 Super teams without bringing in overseas players?? Come on try and make an intelligent contribution for a change.

with NZ imports Grayson Hart for Waratahs and Alby Mathewson for Force for 2013, have Australia simply given up on developing halfback talent?

Fortunately all Kiwi rugby fans are not like that one imbecile, just like all Wannabie supporters are not like you. Yes I know the AB's have had a great run of not having any injuries - about 10 years and still counting, or is it just depth. You still haven't given a view on 5 Super teams in Oz, do you have one? are you really interested in the games development in Oz or are you focused on the Reds? Do you really know how bad the infighting is in Oz rugby by the idiots that are supposed to be running it? do you care? Have some guts and take up the real issues and get off the "woe-is-me" we are so hard done by horse.

One eyed and deaf !!! It happened during the minute silence at eden park. At least they didn't spit on anyone this time !!!

Take out the injuries to the ABs side that Australia have had and see how they would go against a full Aussie side ? It's fine wheh you have one or two players out, even key players, but not to the extent of the Wallabies injuries.

Not sure about "high placed contacts" ??? I'm just involved with the Reds.

Well I didn't hear that, did anyone else, but if true inexcusable really. Obviously by your nasty response I have hit a nerve. Your pleading injuries all year has been fairly tiresome and my point is that everyone has injuries but because of Oz lack of depth it is really starting to hurt. Get over it old son and use all your high placed contacts and all your Wannabie friends to put pressure on the ARU to dump one Super team and put some resources into a national competition, because if they don't it will be "10 more years" just as Mark Ella recently said.

Would you be that fine specimen of a Kiwi sports fan that bellowed out "your next Cooper" during the minute silence for the fallen kiwi soldiers ?

You fit the character.

isthatrightref - reported that Genia played 1,280 minutes of rugby for the Reds; the only break he ever got from playing 9 - was when they moved him to 10!

Don't know how many Aaron Smith played, but the Highlanders had quality back-up in Jimmy Cowan and able to rotate halves thru the season as required. Similar for Blues with Weepu/Mathewson, Chiefs had Kerr-Barlow/Leonard, Crusaders Ellis/Heinz, Hurricanes Perenara (till injured) and C Eaton - the only franchise without a current or ex-AB at 9. Some depth there.

Hope they don't try and rush Genia back for his own sake, and a late start to next year's SUper comp.

@ Craig... lack of depth is at least part of the reason: I don't have the stat but I'd be fairly confident in saying that Genia has racked up more S15 & Test game-time this year than say Smith or Pienaar: as one of my workmates said today in this regard, play enough minutes & sooner or later you're gonna get hurt...

Genia has looked like a man in need of some time away from the game these past few games, great shame it has to be this way rather than being rested or subbed at half- or 3/4-time every now & then.

There is only one man qualified to captain the Wallabies - Nathan Sharpe. He should have been made captain when Gregan retired in fact. I have only respect for Mortlock, but outside backs cannot be great captains - they are too far from the action. Sheehan into 9 for the Argie test - they need his mongrel up front - Sharpe into the captain's role.

Not good news for Genia or Oz rugby, always sad to see that type of injury. I blame Trinats he has been talking about injuries all year, well now he has really got some. Now where will the cattle come from - Brett who???
