Interesting comments from the saffa fans so just why were Mallett and White moved on and what about Kitch Christie why did he pull out so soon after the 1995 RWC?

I'm a South African and a Bok fan and I think it's time the Boks hired a kiwi coach (Graham Henry or Warren Gatland will suffice).

KingShark says...

What do you expect? A poor captain that has proven himself incapable of rousing his team in both Super Rugby or on test level. JDV is a good on-field leader but he is not motivational and inspirational. Secondly, what the heck is Morne still doing in the team? One dimensional and to make it worse, he is kicking poorly. I don't just refer to his kicks at goal but also to his up and unders that were far too deep.

Perhaps after the Boks get a thorough hiding at the hands of AUS and NZ, SARU might decide to re-think HM as a coach and look for someone with imagination. Oh to have Nick Mallet or Jake White back !!!

ruggaluva says...

HM should never blame his players.... he picked them and they seemed to be playing his Bulls template - any idiot who watches rugby can see that. Its dull rugby its conservative and ultimately will not win against the top flight - that requires adventure bravery and players with skill and talent. HM is taking the boks backwards and whats worse is he is serious denial.

The sad fact is had they used HM from 2007 he would have been legendary as he had the right squad at the right time to implement his gameplan. Too late now...

Saru needs to bite the bullet and hire Mallet - the ONLY coach to have brought excitement to SA rugby with new ideas and varied play. White was a joke his win record terrible, but he did put together a damn good team though.

Wallaroo says...

Agree Ramage, well put. During the S15 teams like the Sharks and Cheetahs showed that South Africa have some exceptional backs and can play outstanding attacking rugby. So there can only be one reason why they have reverted back to one dimensional boring rugby, Meyer's coaching and conservative approach to the game.

The Boks need to look at the AB's who play high risk rugby which pays off more often than not. Why? Simply because their players are both team and self confident.

@ Ben7 - spot on mate. How can HM does not see this is out of mind.

Ramage says...

This is a joke Mr Meyer, it is you who have let your country down. I have watched Bok rugby since their return after the Apartheid days and have marvelled at the players you have on offer. Each year I fear you will finally get it right and put a combination on the field that will defeat the All Blacks and continue to do so. But each year the the people they put there to run the teams are either dumped for an internal rugby political reason or they are so conservative and parochial they don't pick the guys in SA awaiting the call.

Fans to have played their part with their calls before the RWC that PDV was an inferior coach.Yet at the RWC that soon changed and it turned into an IRB conspiracy and even worse crucified Bryce Lawrence because the Bok team was so devoid of ideas that day they couldn't take that game and win it. It was far easier to blame the outsiders than look at the real trouble.

Surely now It's obvious that the problems are internal. The continual bungling of the SARFU, the debacle over who plays in Super Rugby being just one more of many. You have the players and it is selections and coaching that are the reason for the lack of results..

Back to Mr Meyer. One can see that his conservative approach to the modern game and his parochial selections, based around his former franchise the Pink Bulls is the problem with his team. The Springboks are predictable and when his game plan fails he has nowhere to go so his players are left like startled rabbits caught in the headlights of an oncoming train. Have you seen the way he acts in the coaching box he gives the impression of a unstable man always on the blower barking orders. He blames his players, yes they are the ones playing the game, but HE picked them. Is his plan so weak and unstructured he has to be barking orders all through the game? So Mr Meyer it is you who needs to look at yourself.

leebok says...

Heres a tip to HM. All fans can accept a loss if you play attacking rugby and at least have a go. If you play out dated rugby and lose (or draw) you will attract critics. So do yourself a favour, and start running it. The Boks have the players to do it because the Kiwi's are gonna rip us a new one if we dont change our tactics. Steyn cant kick anymore so he must go until he proves himself.

At trade2

You clearly haven,t a clue and neither did PDV. At least HM is bold enough to say they were crap on the day and hopefully he has learnt from this. How many int test has he coached now!!!!!

HM was the choice of the people and the rugby board not a political choice made by the government

JDV had a poor game himself. Needs to remember to run straight.

Flyman says...

As I said, no ball fetcher & outdated kick & charge. Boks staff are a bunch of idiots, HM being the chief clown. Boks did not even deserve the draw, more the pity as it may have served as a good wake up call! AB's and Wobblies are going to wipe the floor with them!

Listen to these Bokke "fans". PDV come back all is forgiven.

RugbyLeRoux says...

Well stop having people like Zune kirchner, jj englebrecht, potgeiter in the squad then you bloody moron! Drop steyn at fly half too and tell jdv he's gone unless he sorts his distribution out. For a country with the 2nd best pool of talent at the moment we field a distinctly average team an play pathetic rugby

Sandman says...

I agree fully with De Villers' comments about learning from experience and making changes. However I don't see how they are going to learn or change with such a basic and old school gameplan? If the Boks expect to dominate up front and play from there, when they don't dominate how are they going to play? There is no intelligence in their play, no sign of any plays that will test the opposition in any way other than physically. These days every team has physically strong players and it is very rare that a team will dominate another team up front. Marne' Steyn is not going to strike fear in any opposing back line as he cannot install any creativity in the Bok line. There are no runners at angles and no wingers coming in and running off him. It is the easiest thing in the world to defend against!

I think he's right They got whipped at the breakdown. There was real energy from the crowd. Springboks got a strong squad and they should he have won.

meyer is useless first he picks sub par bulls players and then he uses out dated bulls tactics, it's time to wake now meyer

bloemboy says...

Meyer, U only realised now that you have no fetcher in the squad? Wake up man and dont blame the guys that you selected. They are all good players in their own right but you are continiously getting the balance wrong. Pick a consistent goalkicker is a basic fundamental. Pick a competent fetcher is another. Pick a fullback that is solid under the high ball, has good field placement and can counter is the third. These are three of the first names on any team sheet and you got it wrong with all three.

The team didnt fail, you did Mr. Meyer!
