@startledwombat

Firstly Read was barely offside (if he was), secondly the tackle was 100% legitimate, it's not like he took his head off. Thirdly to plan a hit like that with malicious intent to culminate in an injury like that, the stars would need to align.

Lastly Read is probably about the nicest guy you could meet. On the field he is a destroyer but never in a dirty play kind of way.

In the game I saw, Pocock was doing his best to lead his team by example.

His figures for tackle count and ball-carrying metres do bear this out.

One of the local newspapers reported that Pocock injured his knee in the first half. However on watching the game again tonight, the moment I saw when Pocock required attention for his knee and complained of pain was immediately after he was fiercely tackled in the midriff by Kieran Read.

In the slow-mo replay his knee buckled side-to-side as his body took the shock-load of Read's tackle.

The All Black made his tackle from an off-side position (44th minute), was penalised, and the penalty kick went over.

A meaner man than me could suggest that maybe Read's hit on the Australian captain was discussed in the changing room at half-time, as revenge for Australia's cynical play in the 22nd minute when they almost scored from a quick tap while some of the Wallabies held down NZ's Captain away from play.

Interestingly, if I'm correct in my view of when the injury occurred, it means that a piece of foul play that has led to a key player being out for three months was punished by a mere penalty.

You can hear Trinats breath a sigh of relief - "you beaut injury excuse". Seriously though sorry to see this news because it will lessen the contest, he will be hard to replace and this will mean all the Wannabies will have to step up, but do they have the ticker? The one interesting point is when the Wannabies don't try to talk things up thats when they usually play well. I am picking a very quiet repose this week, lets see.

@rugby_phile, maybe it will harden them! Maybe it's the learning experience they need! Nothing wrong with learning from the best... ;)

As I said in another post you put the kids in there (Hooper and Gill), you can kiss their confidense and development away for a couple of years, Mc Cawand his cronies will see to that. Talking about lamps to the slaughter.

What heavy blow? The guy hardly did anything last Saturday. Not a single turnover, running around wounded and putting his teammates under pressure. More like call it good riddance. Past performances don't count. If it was so then lets get John Eales back. Now M.Hooper will get the break he rightfully deserves. Also L.Gill too. I bet they will claim the No.7 jersey now and D. Pocock better improve from now if not be shown the door.

He sounds like he needs to rest anyway. Get the surgery now rest up and recover!

Will be a big loss, and someone needs to step up big time!
