If the IRB are expected to pay for Fijis tour will they also be expected to fund Samoa, tonga, Canada, the USA, Japan, Korea ..... Madagascar even who just had 40,000 turn up and watch ...... You get my point, Where do you draw the line ... ? Part of the problem stems from the lack of a sponsor which is not surprising in the current climate but I'm at a loss to understand why anyone would think its the IRBs responsibility to fund any of it's members on tour!

GoWalesGo - re the NZ RWC - still a good profit, only a 3% difference to 2007 : IRB staement: "second most commercially successful edition of all time" and "net surplus of more than £90 million ($143 million, NZ$176 million, 108 million euros)."

The IRB added gross commercial revenues achieved of £142 million for the 2011 World Cup were within three percent of the total of the record-breaking France 2007 tournament.

Yea they didn't lose money, but they didn't make profit like they did in 2007.

The IRB did not lose money by having the 2011 RWC in New Zealand... any short fall was covered by the NZ government. The tournament there was a success on many levels.

The IRB are not short of money and most certainly are in the position to help many of the tier two nations. Argentina have been given oodles of cash to set up a pro league and aided their entry into the Rugby Championship with the SANZAR - which is fantastic - but as yet they are still amateur.

APV1... totally agree with you. The IRB and Rugby World Cup Ltd most certainly have the cash to fund the likes of Fiji and other Pacific Island Nations along with developing Europeans rugby playing countries.

They have to fund other nations as well you know and tournaments.

If the 2011 world cup had not been in NZ and SA instead for example, then i'm sure the IRB would be able to with money to spare...

Well said, but it may reduce the amount the iRB have to spend on their own junkets.

Perish the thought the gravy train for iEB council members be derailed!

What an opportunity for the IRB to literally put their money where their mouth is. Let's help Fiji cover their tour expenses, even by helping them secure a sponsor. Surely that's part of develoment for a "Tier 2" nation..?
