@ramm83 and APV1...are you guys English? Thought so...
Robshaw has looked hapless as a leader. No evidence of motivating his players. Instead you see him looking like a donkey in the rain behind the posts...pretty miserable. If he's selected as a player, then that is a mistake, if he is selected as a player it's because of injuries to Croft.
Jean DV on the other hand is all over the park....as is McCaw, Warburton, o Driscoll, etc and inspiring to their teams.

ArmchairGeneral- How can you say that Wade isn't up to it? Has he actually been given a chance yet? have you seen him play a full international and fail to perform? No. But what we have seen is consistantly good try scoring performances in a poor club side, and a hatful of tries for the England second string. I fail to see what more he could do to impress people until he gets his chance in the first XV. And i certainly can't see how anyone could possibly come to the conclusion that he's just not up to it.

JayStarr, maybe I'm missing something. Can you explain why you think Haskell makes the team stronger?

@ wooden_spoon - Do you actually watch rugby?? Robshaw has been one of England's best players since becoming captain...

I think James Haskell will definitely make that team stronger... Not sure about the rest though - it could work perfectly or it could cause them to take a step back...
However, they are facing a weaker Bok side this week. Jacques Potgieter is a very physical player, but pretty one-dimensional too - you just need to tackle him early and around the ankles, then you take him out of the game. But it is also his first cap - and along with Juandré Kruger, Eben Etzebeth and Marcell Coetzee, that now makes 4 forwards who are very talented, but brand new to test rugby. So what will happen when they are put under pressure (as they were when Werner Kruger came on last week - and they started back-pedalling)..?
If England is smart, they'll put pressure on Potgieter and put pressure on the Boks' scrum when one of their props go off.
Also, Wynand Olivier is coming in at 12. Just like Potgieter is no substitution for Willem Alberts, Olivier is no substitution for Francois Steyn. If England is smart, they'll put pressure on Wynand Olivier and Morné Steyn - they're the weak links in the back line... Bash away here and you will get through.
The only replacement that is a danger to England is Aplon. If they are smart, they won't give him the ball in space (i.e., no aimless kicking).
So yes, let's see if England can improve on last week, play smart and put pressure on the Boks' two potential weaknesses...
Or is this even further weakened Springbok team still going to be too strong for England? No excuses about altitude now!

Robshaw's loss is England's gain. He is not a test match level player yet and definitely not skipper material. In fact he's still quite wet behind the ears when playing on the big boys stage.
But Dylan Hartly will definitely spend 10 minute in the bin at some point...probably holding Chris Ashton's hand too :)

Palmer and Botha are about same weight so why all the comments on added bulk? I think they combined well V Baabaas and Parling dropping to bench would be better if line out can survive.
Don't think Manu deserves to start. Even in prem final he was off form at 13. Out of position only makes it worse, whereas Turner- Hall is on good current form. I'd restore Manu but for Saturday TurnerHall would be best. Same goes for Ashton but as Benjamin is not out there and May played Tue and has not trained I don't think Strettle and Wade are up to it. Haskell at 7... Only for SAfrica. He gives good options as he can be moved to 6 or 8. For that reason Dowson also flexible is excellent combo if changes are needed. Not sure how Waldrom got ahead of Dowson who should be starting as Captain I think.

England don't have the Bok's mental or physical strength - but they're improving.
Still a long way from consistent top three status though.

LIke most people I'm quite happy with the XV. Arguably Fearns or Gibson warranted a chance ahead of Haskell in the back row but they've obviously gonbe for experience over potential. I'm not convinced Manu is a 12 but I like the fact that the decision has been made to work on the partnership.
I do think that it would have been good to give the likes of Kitchener, Mullan, Gray and Wade a chance from the bench though. Are we going to learn anything about Mears and Mobo that we don't already know?

A descent selection imo,and nice to see Tulagi and Joseph given annother run out,i think the conbination holds promise ,after all Nonu / Smith didnt become a world class combination in their 1st game ,and theyre in the same mould imo.Palmars return beefs up the pack ,and adds experiance ,while Waldroum deserves his start, and to be able to show ,what he can do.Morgan imo has been a bit disapointing ,given his ability and size ,but has shown in flahes his worth pursavaring with.Haskell i think is there more for his physicality than anything else ,to blunt the bokkes power game ,just hope he doesnt give penalties away ect..Overall i feel its been a good tour for England ,to have been competative against such an experianced and powerfull SA team ,is encouraging imho. Now lets hope England can turn it into an outstanding tour by wining a test

Ok so my betting slip says:
James Haskell to be sin binned 10min either side of half time
Hartley to be cited for foul play
Care to get wasted after the game and drive back to England

I suspect that Eng are going to miss Robshaw, this tour has shown that England needs a little bit more hard graft and he has put in more than most.
Palmer deserves to start - most people don't realize how much difference a big heavy lock makes in the scrum and at ruck time - England getting back into the game coincided with his introduction with both those areas improving. This was then exacerbated by the subbing of the Du Plessis brothers.
I think SA will beat this team - which IMO will be good for Eng in the long run.

Called it, though of all the selections this is one that I'm least excited by. Haskell hasn't earned his place at all, and he's never impressed me when he's played against very forward orientated sides before. However, we don't have many options at 7, I guess Fearns did well the other day so wouldn't have minded him at 7. Johnson has missed too many tackles to deserve his place so I'd of had Dowson at 6. Barritt's strength is his consistent and strong tackling, which doesn't really add much in the last 10 mins, so I would have preferred a player like Wade or May on the bench instead.
On a brighter note, this front row is going to be a lot strong come scrum time. Plus the second row is improved with Palmer on. Care has been in great form and deserves his place, and I'm looking forward to seeing if this centre partnership can work. They should aspire to play like the Nonu Smith pairing did, as I'd say they both have the raw talent to grow into that style.
@kybone
To be fair, Tuilagi has played most of his rugby on the wing, and Joseph has played most of his rugby at fullback and on the wing. So it wouldn't be a hard ask for either of them to move out to that position.

I actually think this is a stronger looking team than in the other 2 tests (minus Haskell for Robshaw), Flood is far better than Farrel when you're trying to play a running game and I've been convinced of this for some time...the second row will have more bulk which is good and this front row arrangement is more experienced + marler should be able to make a big impact later on with his big carries and power when the boks are getting tired out. Waldrom is going to be interesting to watch...reminds me of fourie (the flanker) with his big carrying and I reckon that will be invaluable if we want to match how spies played last week. Foden will have far more impact than strettle did and Goode is...well exactly that. Danny Care is brilliant and I can't wait to see him back in the white jersey.

I'd have like to have seen May on the bench, rather tha Barritt. Other than that, with the players available, no complaints about the selection.
Don't like seeing Haskell there, but the options are limited at the moment (although Armitage should have been there!).

Would have preferred Fearns to Johnson at six. The guy's a couple of stone heavier and would do a better job of knocking back the big Bok runners. As Rugby Rockstar highlights, Johnson might be a great footballer but that's no bloody help when he gets knocked back in every tackle and dumped on his arse! Never going to happen though was it?
Will be interesting to see what Waldrom can do in the full 80 too. Morgan wasn't great last week but it didn't help that the seven in front of him were bloody useless too! Waldrom came on when England were playing better so not really a like-for-like comparison.
Interesting to see what this centre partnership can actually do if they get ball going forward! Can Manu pass or not?!
