@Hellovanite, If I really had it my way there'd be no Super Rugby, only Currie Cup, ANZC, an Australian and Argentine domestic competition. In this scenario no imported players would be allowed unless said player was retired from international competition. This way it'd be like you said in terms of domestic players development and the domestic competitions wouldn't be hemorrhaging money. Then the SH could have it's own Heineken Cup and play the NH champ. I can dream, can't I?

5Lock4ward... I would not be in favour of offering contracts to Argentines to play in NZ S15 teams. I say no to diluted domestic competitions! The NH can keep that mindset for themselves. As selfish as it may sound New Zealand teams for NZ players first, and by some margin too! We owe them nothing, the only thing we owe is to the NZ public on consistency of how we develop our own players!

@ Ruggernaut - if the others can all send understrength teams in the 3N, why can't Argentina do the same..?!

Although I do agree that this is the squad for the summer, not the 4N, which will be much stronger.

Perhaps, in order for them to develop, they should have a Super Team. It could replace one of the SA teams - the Lions, Cheetahs or Cats, perhaps (which-ever it is / will be)...

16 local argentine players there...good showing but they really need a super 15 team along with the pumas club team that plays in s.africa comp..... but for the NH lads its going to be a long season practically 20 months of rugby since the world cup till end of 2013 season !!!!

Don't get me wrong; I understand that the big name fellows are still playing for their respective French club sides right now but the French club circuit is the longest running season of them all and the IRB has placed limits on how much rugby a player can take part in during a calendar year. I should have been clearer. That's my concern come 4N time and the thought process behind my comment suggesting that those players who wish to represent Los Pumas on a regular basis get their schedules and contracts aligned w/ a SH frame of mind. Pichot and the Argentine RFU worked so hard to make this happen for these fellows and I'm sure all involved would hate to see it go to waste. I know I personally can't wait to see how they do.

One of the major stipulations for Argentina to join the Rugby Championship was that all first-choice players must be available for the series. Argentina can therefore not send an understrength team into matches with South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. It is for this reason that I am confident this will not be the squad to compete in the Rugby Championship.

if those players in France can't make the Rugby Championship later in the year - then frankly Argentina can do something else.

@5lock4ward - you might want to look askance at the SANZAR administrators who are so incredibly insular, first.

This wont be the Argentinan squad for the RC its only for the summer tests and is more a development squad .Some may be get into the EPS but not many i feel ,the majority will will go to the IRBNations Cup if deemed good enough

This isn't the squad to play in the Rugby Championship. It's just the squad for the tests against Italya and France. The Top 14 will be over by the time the 4N comes around and Argentina will have a full squad to choose from.

This is what SANZAR was afraid of; an under-strength Pumas team being brought to the slaughter for their intro to the 4N. I don't know why more Argentines didn't begin seeking out SH contracts as soon as their inclusion into the 4N was announced.
