De Villieers was massively average and was banned for cocaine !!! Great appointment I think not.

You guys have talent to burn and Meyer is a good call this however is terrible. Your only weakness is th jdp is awful hence why last year coonie was tried at 3

Have to admit i havent even heard of Koen,so cant comment on his appointment .As to PDV2, yes he was a world class scrummager ,but its to soon i feel to comment on his coaching as his fairly new at it at the highest levals.I wonder what it says though about SA forward play that they have to go elsewhere for a forwards/scrum coach .Isnt that supposed to be a major strength of SA rugby.,obvisously not atm it seems

Jaystarr, you talk nonsense and sense again. Kicking is about far more than having a punt at the posts. Kicking from hand and knowing when to kick are even more vital, Koen has a strong pedigree as a coach and I've seen the players you quote making some real howlers. You're dead right about de Villiers though, exciting appointment of a really talented and intelligent scrummager. It's odd how South Africa have always had potentially great scrummagers only to be outsmarted by the likes of Australia. This is a difficult post, Os didn't last, but if it works then the Boks will annihilate the opposition. Smart move from Meyer.

@APV1: It has been branded onto our collective subconscious by four years of absolute buffoonery. PdV to us is what the raven is to Poe.

Louis Koen as kicking coach - a freakin' joke. Morné Steyn, Johan Goosen, Patrick Lambie, Peter Grant, Francois Steyn and even Elton Jantjies are far better kickers (and players) than he ever was... So that one makes as little sense as having Ricardo Loubser as backline coach. I am completely befuddled by these two appointments...

But the appointment of Pieter de Villiers as scrum coach is a master stroke in my opinion. One of the best scrummagers the game ever produced, an absolute legend, who could never play for the Springboks, but can now be involved with them at the end of his career... It's a fairy tale ending. His wealth of experience (especially of NH teams, tactics and conditions) will be invaluable.

Now come to your senses Heyneke and pick Kolisi, and I might forgive you for your Koen and Loubser brain fart.

What a brilliant appointment in Pieter de Villiers. Never even thought about him being involved with South Africa
