I think we should be grateful that Kidney in his ultra conservatism isn't starting Jennings.

O'Brien is a big loss but what a great chance for O'Mahony who looks very impressive in the loose and at lineout time as well as being destructive at the breakdown. He may bring some much needed balance to the backrow.

Its so frustrating that players like Marshall, Tuohy, Ruddock, Henry, Zebo are being overlooked. I know its a RWC seeding year but is there anything Kidney doesn't know about Jennings or McCarthy. These guys are great provincial players but never reached international standard. You put Ruddock and Tuohy in there thats two future internationals who are good enough. If your old enough your good enough so for god sake Declan throw off the shackles and role the dice!

Gutted for SOB, he's been off form but playing out of position doesn't help, what must he do to dislodge the inept Jamie Heaslip. Hopefully POM will take his chance and have a stormer and when SOB is fit again he can replace Houdini and the Irish back row can get back to being something worth while.

Jennings?! You gotta be kidding me! At least a skin infection isn't anything major for O'Brien. Happy that O'Mahony gets a shot at a full match.

@potato there is no problem with his confidence - he had a blinder against France - he is just being used differently by the unimaginative Kidney regime. At Leinster, he plays best at 6 or 8 and carries as a second receiver, receiving the ball deeper. At Ireland, he is being used defensively and as a first receiver battering ram. I agree it is no harm to rest him, as he seems frustrated with the Kidney-failure.

As a Leinster fan, I find it odd to bring Jennings in. Don't get me wrong, he is great for Leinster still but he has never delivered for Ireland and there are lots of other younger back rows out there, who will be part of Ireland's rugby future and are playing well (Henry, Ruddock, Ryan, McLaughlin, Ronan if fit). Typical Kidney though.

This is a big setback for Ireland. I don't understand the criticism O' Brien has been getting of late, during the French match did anyone hear Dusatoir's name or see him dominating like he usually does? The answer is that O' Brien matched the World Player of the Year hit for hit, yard for yard and hence nullified him, which is what you have to do to Dusatoir if you are to have any chance of gaining parity with the French pack, which is what Ireland and especially Sean O' Brien did last Saturday...it was trench warefare between these two, with O'Brien coming out on top, and at this stage of his career I doubt if Peter O' Mahony could have done what O' Brien did last Saturday. This is why the loss of SOB is huge for Ireland against Scotland. The Scots will draw on his absence and with Ireland now suffering injuries to key players in 3 different departments (2nd row, back row and centre) and with the addition of Murray's injury this game is nearly a 50/50 game...The telling difference between the sides now is Sexton, who if he plays to form, we'll win, but if he doesn't we could end up on the wrong side of the result

Ugh Shane Jennings really? At least give Rhys Ruddock who is in the squad, can cover all of the backrow and is in better form a second chance. Shane Jennings just can't cut it any more.

Maybe a blessing in disguise. He's one of my favourite players, I love watching him and think he's pure class but his confidence isnt there at the moment, maybe this will be good for him.

He can come back at Twickers as the human wrecking ball we all know he can be. Come on SOB, everyone is behind you!
