Leicester's scrum-half Micky Young has received an eight week ban after being found guilty of making contact with the eye area of Aironi wing Giulio Toniolatti.
Young was cited after the Tigers' 33-6 Heineken Cup win over Pool Four strugglers Aironi at Welford Road.
The 23-year-old could have been hit with a 12-week ban, but he received a lighter punishment after a disciplinary hearing took into account the player's previous good conduct.
Young misses the England Saxons' clash with Irish Wolfhounds and will not be available until March 19.
An ERC statement read: "The Judicial Officer upheld the citing complaint, concluding that Young had committed an act which was reckless rather than deliberate.
"Employing the IRB recommended sanctions for Law 10.4(m), he decided that the offence was at the low-end entry point of 12 weeks.
"And having taken into account the player's excellent record and exemplary conduct during the hearing, he granted the player mitigation of four weeks, and imposed a suspension of eight weeks."
