good lucky, you have been a great wearer of the green and gold.

Sarel had a good season but has got to be behind du preez, pienaar, hougaard, mcleod and for sure jano vermaak. don't think we'll be seeing sarel in a green jersey for some time, and rightly so. only 6th best scrummie in s africa.

i remember that chip kick too, probably not as fondly as you tho! From memory that won the boks the game? pretty ballsy.

shame hes going for our sake....if hes keeping Pretorius & Houggard on the bench than thats good news for us

Agreed Danut... Only, on form alone Ruan and Sarel should be above Fourie actually. And Ruan is as experienced, so unless Fourie pulls his finger out some time soon, that's who I think should be in the no. 9 jersey. He played really well for the Barbarians vs. England and he's always had that x-factor.

I really hope that Ruan gets a chance to play with Lambie in the Tri-nations... I think it will only take one such experiment to show everyone that's what our 9-10 combination should be!

The timing of this is too much of a coincidence for this to be a coincidence..!

But I have just gained back the respect I've lost for Ricky over the last season or two, because it took guts to make this decision, but it was the right decision.

I just feel sorry for him that he was put in this position... he KNOWS his form has been poor - Rassie and Alistair at the Stormers are honest coaches and would've told him as much, and they showed it by placing him on the bench.

But still PdV picks him... simply because he played at the last world cup - never mind the fact that he is probably only the EIGHTH best scrum-half available to him... (Fourie, Ruan, Sarel, Francois Hougaard, McLeod, Jano Vermaak and obviously Dewaldt are all better than him). And then Ricky had to hear from all quarters how terrible he is...

PdV is to blame for that - for making a player, who has given a lot to South African rugby, so embarrassed that he would quit the world cup squad... I hope he learns some lessons from this, and thinks before picking another player so obviously out of form (and shape). People aren't stupid - they will make a big fuss, and then the poor player has to cop the flack.

But now he's probably gonna go and replace him with Bolla Conradie...

Good luck Ricky, thanks for the good rugby you've given SA over the years - some of us can still remember that!

Good to see that he knows when he is not in form and doing something about it. Pity some others do not have the same foresight. And yes will always remember that try in Dunedin

Right decision at the right time. Go well Ricky and good luck. I have to agree that John Smit ought to do the same. I would hate to see a great player humbled at the WC.

He's only past his prime because he's a fat little butter ball. However this should please all the Bok fans calling for Sarel.

Good luck to Lyon, that's all I can say... but to be fair, I'll never forget that famous try in Dunedin, thanks for that memory at least Ricky!
