Hugo Southwell staked a claim for a Test recall with a tryscoring performance in Scotland A's convincing 38-7 win over Tonga on Friday.
Southwell impressed in his first start at fly-half but he really shone after reverting to his usual full-back berth, scoring the fourth of five Scottish tries in front of 3,976 at Netherdale.
Edinburgh scrum-half Greig Laidlaw - promoted from the bench after Rory Lawson's elevation to the senior squad for Saturday's Test against Australia - got the ball rolling with an early touchdown.
That was converted by Jim Thompson, who added a second converted try to make it 14-0 at half-time.
A Thompson penalty and a well-worked Ben Cairns touchdown - also converted by Thompson - followed after the break before Southwell's fine score.
That was goaled by Colin Gregor, who also added the extras after a late effort from fellow substitute Mark Robertson before Tonga grabbed a consolation through Alipate Fatafehi, converted by Kurt Morath.

are you kidding? this is a team that is struggling to muster a team together because clubs refuse to release them. Scotland lose about as many games as tonga do! get real!
