England and Leicester will have been encouraged to witness Toby Flood returning to Tigers action on Saturday.
The 24-year-old fly-half was back on playing duty over the weekend as his club side took part in a successful LV= Cup fixture against the Dragons.
And after enduring a tough six months on the sidelines due to an Achilles injury, Flood could not hide his delight following the 29-20 success.
"It was great to be back. It was lung-burning and difficult getting your head around all of the calls again but the fun part was running around, enjoying it and playing with the guys," he said, speaking to the Leicester Mercury.
"I felt fine with regards to my Achilles. When I got into my stride, I didn't even think about it during the game. I felt confident and being involved in the game made me think about it even less.
"We will take the win. It was frustrating in terms of our performance with a couple of sloppy errors allowing them to score. But we will give it a good shot at getting through when we resume playing the competition in January."
Flood was given a run-out by Head Coach Richard Cockerill just before the hour and almost crossed for a comeback score had the ball not gone to ground.
"It was nice to get back out there and it would have been nicer if I had finished that try off," he said.
"I studied the game sheet and play-book for a while so the first call was important for me when I finally got out on to the pitch. You think about what you need to do but it needs to become second nature to you when you are out there.
"There would have been some odd calls coming out of my mouth but I would like to think that 95 per cent of them would have been right.
"It has been bitter-sweet being out for so long.
"You know you are going to come back and that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. But there are those dark days when there doesn't seem to be any movement and it all seems a bit stagnant."
