New Zealand veteran Aaron Mauger is set to be handed the Leicester fly-half jersey against South Africa this Friday.
The 28-year-old centre will captain the Welford Road outfit as they look to rest Jeremy Staunton following a testing start to the Tigers campaign.
"We are looking after Staunton," said Head Coach Richard Cockerill, speaking to the Leicester Mercury.
"He has played eight games on the trot, he has a knee niggle and our next focus is Gloucester. That's the next set of points on offer, so we need everyone fit."
Leicester are missing several first-team players for the Boks' opening tour fixture but will be able to call upon new star signing Lote Tuqiri.
And Cockerill admitted that with an LV Cup fixture coming two days later against Leeds Carnegie, there will be plenty of youth given chances to impress against the World Cup winners' second string.
"We will have two very good sides and I expect them to perform," he added.
"It will be interesting to see how these young guys play under pressure."
