Nicolas Vergallo: Joining Lyon

Argentina scrum-half Nicolas Vergallo is the latest player to leave the Kings after clinching a deal with Lyon.

Eastern Province Rugby Union president Cheeky Watson confirmed Vergallo's departure from the Port Elizabeth-based outfit and wished him well with his new contract.

"I know that Vergallo has strong aspirations to play international rugby for the Pumas," he told Sport 24

"Many of his former team-mates from Argentina play in the French and European competitions, and the move to Lyon was therefore a sensible option in lieu of him wanting to again represent his country."

Lyon current top the Pro D2 league, the second level in France's professional league system. They were relegated from the Top 14 at the end of the 2011/12 season.

Vergallo is the latest player to leave the Kings after their brief stint in Super Rugby in 2013. He joins Cornell du Preez, Daniel Adongo, Waylon Murray, Bandise Maku, Jacques Engelbrecht, David Bulbring, SP Marais, Dimitri Catrakilis and director of rugby Alan Solomons - among others - to have left the Kings since the completion of this year's Super Rugby tournament.
