The Kings have boosted their backline and forwards stocks for 2013 after signing centre Andries Strauss and lock Steven Sykes.
Strauss, who currently plays for the Cheetahs, is reportedly unhappy at the Bloemfontein-based franchise and asked to be released a year early from his contract to join Super Rugby's newcomers.
The Kings confirmed 28-year-old Sykes, who hails from the Eastern Cape, had put pen to paper on a two-year deal that will commence at the completion of this year's Currie Cup.
"Sykes is on board and we are delighted to have signed up a player of his calibre," said Kings chief executive Anele Pamba.
"We have been keeping a close eye on him and we've finally concluded everything.
"He impressed us, hence we wasted no time in bringing him to Port Elizabeth."
