Maiden win: London Welsh

London Welsh recorded their first victory in the Aviva Premiership with a last-gasp 25-24 win over Exeter Chiefs.

A late Alfie To'oala try after concerted pressure on the Chiefs line gave Seb Jewell the opportunity to kick London Welsh to victory after coming from behind twice during the match.

For the third consecutive game, Welsh had shipped a 14-0 deficit early on, with Exeter getting the first points on five minutes, Luke Arscott scoring after an interception and 60 metre charge by Ian Whitten.

Matt Jess added the Chief's second only minutes later, benefitting from a three man overlap on the left, with Mieres converting once more.

Welsh got themselves back in the hunt with a penalty try after strong mauling from a lineout, before Nick Scott scored on his first start for the exiles, charging 80 metres for his side's second try halfway into the first period.

Exeter indiscipline led to the home side taking the lead for the first time, as Ross slotted home a penalty with five minutes of the half left, before sustaining strong Chiefs pressure until the whistle.

Although Welsh started the second period brighter, Exeter regained the lead after good possession play for a converted Richard Baxter score.

The home team stayed in the hunt through another Ross penalty goal only moments later, before Exeter's Tom Johnson was stretchered off.

Gareth Steenson was introduced with twenty minutes left, and made his first impact with a fine penalty, stretching the lead to six.

But Welsh never gave up, and kept the play in Exeter's half for long periods, before To'oala went over, sending the home crowd delirious.
