Heading to Melbourne: Tom Kingston

The Melbourne Rebels have confirmed the signing of winger Tom Kingston from the Waratahs on a two-year deal.

The former Australian U20 player will switch franchises after enduring a frustrating campaign that has seen him drop down the pecking order at the Waratahs in recent times, finding himself playing club rugby in recent weeks.

"We have been watching Tom's progress for some time, his early season form suggested that he probably could have seen more game time this season," said Rebels rugby manager Sam Cordingley.

"He is a quality person and a fantastic athlete who will realise his potential with regular time on the park in a Rebels jersey.

"With the departure of Richard Kingi there was an opportunity to recruit a quality outside back and Tom is certainly that. We are all thrilled to have Tom at the Club over the next two years.

"We are very pleased with the depth of the squad and how they have responded in recent weeks. Tom is highly regarded in the Australian Rugby Community, and having him on board will only further enrich our young Club.

"He is also a very balanced athlete, looking to continue his studies here in Melbourne, which the Club will fully support as part of our Five Star Engagement program."

Kingston joins Wallaby scrum-half Luke Burgess, back-rower Lopeti Timani and the Australian-born trio of Tom Sexton, Toby Smith and Max Lahiff who have been playing their trade abroad in heading to Victoria.
