Aled Brew: Two tries for Dragons

Two tries from Aled Brew helped ease the Dragons to a comfortable 33-10 bonus-point win over Benetton Treviso at Rodney Parade on Sunday.

With many onlookers calling for Brew to be included in the Wales squad, it further reminded coach Warren Gatland of his continuing try-scoring prowess.

Aided by further scores from centre Adam Hughes, full-back Ashley Smith and winger Will Harries, Newport was too good for the Italian opposition.

The Dragons came out determined to end their poor recent form and duly found themselves five points up early on thanks to an unconverted Hughes try.

Treviso dominated for the next 20 minutes but couldn't take advantage as too many mistakes stopped them from converting their territory into points. And they were made to pay when a beautifully weighted kick from substitute Smith allowed Brew to touch down with fly-half Jason Tovey converting.

Thomas then got on the scoresheet himself when talented number eight Toby Faletau broke through some weak tackling and off-loaded to the full-back to scamper over.

With half-time approaching Kris Burton got Treviso on the board with a penalty to make it 19-3 at the break.

The Italian side came out in the second half with more intensity and were duly rewarded through a converted Burton try.

However, Brew completed the bonus-point in the 66th minute latching onto a kick, and the same tactic worked moments later when winger Will Harries touched down, with Hughes, taking over the kicking duties, converting both.

Substitute Gonzalo Padro was sin-binned late on for Treviso, but neither side could add to their tally.
