@APV1

Well, Cockerill is last on the list from those nominees anyway, no debate about that.

@ crunchfit - fair enough. I can't say I agree (obviously!), but I'll certainly take your point about 12Trees. But he's young and naive (impetuous perhaps), so should be given a little more slack. As the DoR, I'd have expected Cockers to set a better example in public. I'd also expect him to have a better reign on his staff. The Tigers are such a big club that they have a media team. Surely they must have a PR advisor too..?

Time will tell. My heart and head say Baxter, though.

how about andy farrell ---he was the dark horse behind englands success and saracens -- few coaches have done more for club and country than farrell --assistant coach he may be -- but deserving of this award -he is --esp when sarries win the premiereship AGAIN --

Baxter and O'Shea have been excellent but benefitted from world cup year and Leicester should not be discriminated against for former success. The only team to go into the finals on top form despite a tough year. Ulster and Clarmont have shown what a tough HC pool Leicester were in. Baxter lost top 4 spot and Vs Stade. We'd not have forgiven any other coach that. My heart says Baxter, my head says Cockers. English love an underdog but it has to be Cockers.

@APV1

Not going to draw away from this topic, just going to state my point. I feel there's nothing wrong with stating he didn't like what Twelvetrees did. I don't like how Twelvetrees did what he did. Why should the way he conducts himself around those who support him be hidden from the public? I say fair play to Cockerill. He let the public know how he felt and the manner of Twelvetrees' departure without going off the wall.

And I don't think one of your coaches having a go at Lancaster should have any reflection on the coach himself being nominated or winning an award. Cockerill certainly isn't the only strong personality on that coaching staff... I don't like the comments that were made about Lancaster, but they weren't his.

@APV1 - I don't disagree with you. Yet, none of those things disqualify him from the Director of Rugby of the Year award, that was my point. You only think he doesn't deserve it because you don't like him, which is fair enough but somewhat moot. And you'll note that I think Baxter should win it.

@ lawynd - great player. Excellent coach. Poor PR. His public attitude towards 12trees' departure really annoyed me:

It should have stayed behind closed doors.

And then allowing his Coach to publicly slate the England Coach was also daft (I say "allowing", as he's the DOR and the buck stops with him):

http://www.planetrugby.com/story/0,25883,15973_7577485,00.html

(And didn't we do so very badly in the 6N..?!)

It's not all about results. Being the best is also about where you started and where you ended up. It's also about the manner in which you acheived that.

That's why RB deserves this.

Rob Baxter for me - given the way he has had to use his limited and unfashionable resources I think his achievements this season have been immense.

I know you're not a fan of Cockerill APV1, which is why I'm going to take your opinion with a pinch of salt. ;) Baxter should easily win this though.

Crumbie says...

Yeah Richard Cockerill shouldn't be anywhere near this, what¿s he done right bar guide Tigers back up from the basement of the premiership to contenders for the title, Tigers arguably playing some of the best rugby in the prem, how dare he voice his opinion on that nice lad Callum Clark. I mean what was Rob Hawkins doing putting his arm near him??? Oh and getting passionate about his team and his players! God what a nasty man he is. If only he didn't take part in charity events and concentrated on being a really nice guy, and saying all the right stuff!

get a life APV1

saying that Rob Baxter for me!

Between Baxter and O'Shea. I'd go for Baxter under all circumstances except O'Shea winning the Premiership.

Got to be Baxter for me!

Baxter.

O'Shea has done wonders at Quins, but has been oudone by the magic RB has sprinkled down at Sandy Park.

RC shouldn't be anywhere near this list.
