Super Rugby deal: Virgil Lacombe

According to reports, the Southern Kings have signed Toulouse hooker Virgil Lacombe ahead of their debut season in Super Rugby.

The 28-year-old, who has fallen behind Gary Botha and Christopher Tolofua in the pecking order, is poised to join the South African side.

Rugbyrama reveal that Lacombe will move on December 31 on a deal that runs until July 2013.

Lacombe began his career with Toulouse in 2004 before playing one season with Brive last term.

Tolofua and Botha are definitely ahead of him. I wouldn't be surprised if Basualdo and even Servat were as well. Not a bad player, but considering that Super Rugby prides itself on being just a step below test level, as it should considering the low number of teams fielded by top rugby nations, then surely Lacombe doesn't fit that. They don't seem to have a clue, they're filling their squad with players but not many that will do a good job in Super Rugby. I'll join you fellas in looking forward to watching them get the hiding they deserve.

This is sure to help transformation of Eastern Cape rugby... buying a load of white players from other provinces and clubs. Brilliant Cheeky Watson, brilliant. Kick out a team made up of South African players (including many black and coloured players) to replace them with a barbarian international team of white players... You're a genius.

What a farce. No wonder Eastern Cape rugby went down the drain in the first place... I'll enjoy their embarrassment in every game they play. This is a lesson they, and SARU, should learn once and for all so that it will NEVER happen again. They deserve every ounce of embarrassment coming their way.

Glad to see the Kings are bringing through players of colour based on their Super 15 inclusion...

Will he be up to the task ?

He's a 2nd (or 3rd) choice for Toulouse, let's hope Kings have kept this in mind when signing him.
