Fitness boost for Ireland duo

SKY_MOBILE Johnny Sexton New Zealand v Ireland

All clear: Johnny Sexton

Ireland have received good news about the fitness of fly-half Johnny Sexton and back-row forward Sean O'Brien ahead of facing Argentina on Saturday.

Sexton was injured in the warm-up before last week's game against Fiji due to a tight groin and was removed as a precaution, but has been passed fit to face the Pumas in Dublin.

"At a stretch, Jonathan could have stayed in the squad on Saturday but it was felt it wasn't prudent and we withdrew him solely as a precaution," said Ireland team manager Michael Kearney.

"It's not even a minor concern to be honest. He received treatment over the weekend and even today there was considerable easing.

"The scan was nothing more than a precaution and it was determined there was no damage. Jonathan was back jogging and will train fully on Thursday and will be absolutely fine for Saturday."

Meanwhile, O'Brien came through his first training session of the season for Leinster after undergoing hip surgery. O'Brien will take part in team sessions next week before a decision is made regarding his selection.

@ mcdb06 and decky100,

Well done boys, you've just given jonesy2 free licence to come back here again. If someone writes comments like that, you must surely know they are winding you up! "...so feel free not to comment on stuff you've no clue about" music to ears of a wum.

Just......ignore him....

When fit Sean O'Brien is world class. I doubt whether Ireland need to rush him back into the team before he is fully fit . As for the notion that Ireland has given up on this fixture (with Argentina), I doubt whether that is the case.

Kidney must go - I have said it from prior to last years 6nations, then Darcy must go allowing a number 12 who can run, break tackles and score trys Gordo does none of the above $exy at 12 ROG at 10 and we could beat the Argies, Marshall has to get a start at 9 as Ireland have been weak there for many years, Heaslip needs to be dropped and what does Dekkie do (Captain :)) Hilarious, he must have said who looks the stupidest and has the worst stats for a number 8 in International rugby for line breaks/tackle busts - oh yeah he is my new Captain (IDIOTIC)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ehh, relax regarding O'Brien, I think the article was referring to him taking part in Leinster team sessions prior to any possible selection for Leinster...........I'd imagine the Irish setup would have planned to be without him until the 6 nations

No, no Jonsey2 defiantly not. Ireland comes first but kidney wont risk him with the six nations so close and he is int match fit yet he will be in two or three weeks but he has had a long lay off. Been thrown into the Argentina game would be a bridge too far.

@jonesy2 defeat has not been accepted by us irish fans at all, i fail to see how thats even relevant to o'brien being fit or not. people are generally pointing out that he is not match-fit for any international game at present. also how is sexton being fit for argentina a blow?

@jonesy2

Sean O'Brien had surgery on a bad hip injury and hasnt played a game since last season so no we dont want him rushed into a full international match since he isnt fully fit, you prat. From what i've seen on your comments on previous articles you don't know anything about European rugby so feel free not to comment on stuff you've no clue about

are you irish fans saying you dont want obrien playing because you have already accepted defeat against the pumas? if so, that is sad. also surely sexton being fit is a blow for ireland?

Sean O'Brien has no chance of playing against Argentina. He is not in the Ireland squad and is just back from a long lay off and an operation. He will play 20 mins for Leinster in the Rabo.

O'Brien wont be playing. They wont throw him into that game. He will be playing as a sub for leinster if he comes through training this week.
