Quade quits Australian Rugby?

19th November 2012 08:35

Reports on Monday claimed that Reds and Wallabies fly-half Quade Cooper has decided to quit Australian Rugby.

According to Channel Nine in Australia, Cooper is frustrated after the ARU failed to offer him a top contract as he considers an extension.

Reports suggest he was upset after only being offered match payments by the ARU, as opposed to an annual sum as part of his contract.

Cooper was suspended for three matches and given a major fine after speaking out on Twitter regarding Australia coach Robbie Deans and describing the national environment as "toxic."

He was fined Aus$40,000 ($41,000), plus a further Aus$20,000 suspended for two years, and given a suspended three-match ban for the comments.

After a code of conduct hearing Cooper apologised for his behaviour, which he admitted fell below Wallabies standards.

He has since been linked with a move either to play rugby union overseas, or to switch codes and convert to rugby league in the NRL, along with a possible shock move into the boxing ring.

I'm sure the Italian federation is moving in its spys and find if Quade had an Italian anchestor, maybe back in Roman's times!!...it could be useful to have a decent number 10 for Italy!

Good riddance - please don't come to Europe. Stick to League or Ozzie Prison Rules. We don't want you up here.

He is a decent player and doesn't deserved half the coverage he gets. Time to move in quade and try something else .

The quicker this self-centred, dishonest, divisive MORON takes his thuggish ar$* to league, the better.

Boxing? 1st of april is 5 1/2 months away Dude!

I reckon he'll make a good living in either France or Japan. Not sure is England can afford him.

Cooper doesn't bother me and if he's stuck in a rubbish situation then there's no point in sticking it out, becasue its obvious from the posts here that he'll get no appreciation for it. Do something you'll enjoy Quade. You're only here once, Start afresh and keep your nose clean. don't give interviews and you'll enjoy Japan or the South of France. :) Opt out of the bull, its not worth the hassle.

Does anybody still care? The sooner rugby is rid of this clown the better - just go Cooper, you had many chances and failed to make the grade.

People in glass houses. The outspoken tongue of cooper appears to have the toxic edge.

A brilliant player. One of the most exciting players to watch. Oz havent been to exciting since he left. I hope he stays in the game... Looks like overseas is a good idea. Re boxing I think he's just missing games with Richie McCaw. France can give him some boxing practice.

or is it all hype, public opinion to get him a pay rise?

His manager has announced there will be a press conference in a week's time.

Is he marketable - as in fit/recovered from injury? Difficult to sell to an overseas club while still injured.

SBW is an absolutely AWFUL boxer. This guy will be even worse if thats possible. He wont make it in the NRL either. Those guys need brutal defensive abilities and as we know, he couldnt even bring down a one legged grandma.

Interesting idea bringing him to Bath. I'm not sure that it would be fair on Heathcote, but it's an interesting idea, none the less.

Boxing, eh? I suspect there'll be a fair few who'd like to see him in the ring. There is no place to hide and it's somewhere you have to show your mettle. I've boxed and there's nothing quite like being trapped in an enclosed space with another bloke intent on knocking your block off. You can't shy away, you have to face up and accept that being punched in the face hurts. But hopefully you can hit him more often than he hits you (I was boxing as an amateur for the Army), and you win the bout. For all of those who doubt his courage, this would be the surest test around.

Dear Quade

your player manager is a sharp dude. Stick by him, even though he's just in it for the money, because he's the only one on your side. On behalf of everyone else, can I just say:

he doesnt want to play for australia and the ARU dont want him playing for australia so yeah his wallabies career is over. very sad for people who enjoy watching the most entertaining of international rugby but you cant have someone who doesnt want to represent the country in which they are playing. at least he will be playing in either the NRL, japan or france and those fans can watch his magic.

@centre12 no thank you! Bath can do without such a devisive character and you can just imagine what he would have to say about the state of the game if he gets a few rainy weekend, forward battles...

Would love to see him in the boxing ring, bring on the Quade Cooper vs Sonny Bill!!!
