Double strike: Adriaan Strauss scores his second try

Two tries from Adriaan Strauss helped South Africa to a 21-10 victory over a brave but inefficient Scottish side at Murrayfield on Saturday.
A dominant first-half performance saw the visitors take a 14-3 lead into the interval thanks to Strauss's first try - off a rolling maul that Scotland failed to deal with - and three penalties from Pat Lambie.
The Bok vice-captain extended the visitors' lead early in the second period with an intercept try from long range but Scotland ruled the last 30 minutes.
A try from replacement scrum-half Henry Pyrgos got the hosts back into contention and only long periods of committed defence from the Springboks kept the free-running hosts at bay.
For 45 minutes the Scots were simply unable to match the Springboks' power in the contact areas and Francois Louw made life miserable for the men in blue with his pilfering work at the breakdown.
But in a dramatic change of roles, the hosts upped their game significantly as the game progressed and Heyneke Meyer would have been a worried man as he watched his side struggle to get out of their own half in the last quarter.
Indeed, Andy Robinson would have been mighty frustrated at the full-time whistle after seeing his team waste a handful of opportunities with some terrible decision making.
Lambie and his opposite number Greig Laidlaw exchanged early penalties before the Boks rumbled over the whitewash for the first try of the game at the end of the first quarter.
Scotland had hoped to negate the threat of the Springbok maul by not allowing it to form but failed dismally in executing their plan and were left red-faced as they scrambled to stop the green machine from advancing forward for what turned out to be an easy first Test try for Strauss.
The Bok defence looked impenetrable and Lambie could add his third penalty to give the visitors an 11-point lead at the break.
The game looked done and dusted when Strauss intercepted Mike Blair to race 40 metres and score under the sticks but the Scottish reply was impressive although not always effective.
Blair was replaced by Pyrgos, who had a massive impact on the home side's attack.
Scotland opted to kick for touch from a penalty and Pyrgos ran in untouched as he collected Kelly Brown's pass and went straight through a hole in the line-out.
Scotland had the Boks under cosh for most of the remainder of the game, but were unable to break down the well-organised South African defence, even when Flip van der Merwe saw yellow in the dying stages.
Man of the match: Francois Louw was fantastic once again and Henry Pyrgos deserves a mention but you can't overlook the man who scored two tries, Adriaan Strauss.
Moment of the match: Scotland were always going to struggle to get back into the game once they had conceded the first try. The Bok rolling maul strikes again!
Villain of the match: No nasty stuff to report.

the leading try scorer was a hooker for the Boks says it all. Once again we were poor. One moment summed it up for me Lambie had ball in Scots half with overlap and kicks it up for Kirchner and Pietersen to win, needless to say we lost possession. This brand of rugby does not work. Against a more skillful team we will be shown up. JDv must be at the end of the line. When is J Fourie back from japan? Surly De Jongh and him is a better combo. JDV has no desire to keep ball alive. Alberts was great bashing it up, but there were no support runners to receive offloads. How many new caps were blood today? What is the point of a tour? Guys are not being developed. They will be expected to just ;perform when the core guys get injured. Look at the Ab's playing Italy with a completely different team. The Australians have discovered a gem in Hopper an able replacement for Pocock because they have given him a chance. what have the Boks learnt on this tour to date? We can say all our best players are injured but that should be a chance for guys to step up and some have (Louw, Vermullen). But that will be mesed up when Spies comes back. Vermullen will make way (this should not happen but will. It is so frustrating to be a Bok fan, each week we pay our money and hope and we get put through the grinder.

Horrible by South Africa--really horrible. To see them dominate at first -clean and efficient, then Lambie and Pienaar-under instructions--start kicking aimlessly--panic sets in --knock ons--more kicks charged down--only desperate tackling from Vermeulen, Louw, Etsebeth de Jongh and a lucky intercept saved them as they had no possession at all in the second half.
SARU MUST FIRE MEYER!! as well as the rest of the coaching staff--talk about thick-stupid-dumb-neanderthal-backward--the game is not supposed to be played like this. When a SA player actually passes the ball the recipient drops it in surprise --GET RID OF MEYER--- let the players run pass and catch the ball --they can do it at junior level, they can do it in sevens--they can do it at provincial level.. The dumb --"they say we shouldn't kick but what would they know" head down stupidity must surely stop. The Scottish defence was never put under pressure by multi-phase attack-- as the ABs showed they would have not been able to cope. Please-- -GET RID OF MEYER and his crew.
Good gutsy effort by Scotland again.

An easy SA victory without really trying. Scotland only looked "dangerous" when SA were comfortably ahead. SA won in third gear.

Why must Jean De Villiers always bash up, rather than offload to Juan De Jongh? So many unnecessary kicks by both Ruan and Rastaman! Rastaman must please go, as must Hougaard. Give Mvovo a chance, and Taute at fullback. Why the hell bring Morne-can't-tackle on at the end, when tackling was crucial? Lambie a good defender. Pat Cilliers must be tighthead cover (or even 1st choice), v.d. Linde is well past his best. Mostly the forwards are playing well though. But the backline attacking play must get sorted out. Nevertheless a pleasing win. Scotland really threw away some golden opportunities near SA tryline with some really daft speculative kicks. If they had simply kicked all their easily kickable penalties in the red zone, they could have won just on penalties. Some really daft tactical decision-making, despite all the commendable heart and spirit they showed. But it looks like they'll never really get streetwise.

That was like watching old people ****. The PRK could use footage of this match to interrogate political prisoners.

Jaysus that was a poor game, I ended up sorting out my sock drawer. Well played the Boks but why do you bother having a back line on the pitch. the Scots let them themselves down yet again with some real headless chicken play.
Clancy could not be accused of being a home-town ref let SA away with murder at the breakdown,

Why do we always stand off when we have a lead - one eye on England? They will give me a heart attack one day. I didn't understand the refs control of the scrum in the second half and I'm not sure that the players did either. I thought that it was harsh against Heinke when he came on - his opposite number was definitely 'turning in' as per versus Jannie in 2010. I also thought that we were unlucky not to be given the first try - how could it be 'truck and trailer' when Scotland initially bound and then broke as a pack in the wrong direction? Come on guys, take the ugly win and then put in 100% against England - one big game and then Christmas break. Go Bokke.

A brave showing from Scotland ,but again ,just not precise enoughin excution. Also SA 1st try was a disgrace truck and trailier just like the disallowed try,but this time given.Referee needed consistancy, and failed. Also didnt penalise SA laying over the ball in Scotlands half.An exciting game though never the less.
