Jones blow for Wales

26th October 2012 19:30

Adam Jones Wales RWC 2011

Ruled out: Adam Jones

Wales prop Adam Jones has been ruled out of the November Test series against Argentina, Samoa, New Zealand and Australia due to a knee injury.

Jones, regarded as one of the finest scrummagers in world rugby, went off early in the second half during the Ospreys' Heineken Cup defeat against Leicester on Sunday and now faces a lay-off of up to 10 weeks.

The 31-year-old had been due to travel with his Wales team-mates to Poland this weekend for a training camp but will instead focus on regaining full fitness prior to his country's Six Nations title defence.

Jones, who has won 83 caps and played in two Tests for the British and Irish Lions on their 2009 South Africa tour, originally injured his knee last month.

But his early exit against Leicester set alarm bells ringing, and concerns over his fitness were sufficient for Wales to draft uncapped Scarlets prop Samson Lee into their squad as cover for Jones in Poland.

A decision on whether Lee now joins the autumn Test squad permanently, or another player is called up, will be made at a later date.

It is a loss not having adamn jones available for the autumn internationals but i would much rather him miss these internationals than the 6N

Lets blood jarvis and see if he is up to the job? he would have been learning alot from jones as his understudy at the ospreys so let him make the step up for wales rather than moving someone like paul james out of position and just being able to manage the tight head position.

I think the autumn internationals were going to be hard anyway before this news, argentina are going to be in good form after their world championship matches and more battle hardened wheras its wales first match for a while

We shall see.......

Hmm.., this isn't looking too good for Wales. They rely very heavily on their forwards to secure decent set piece ball and their scrum is a massive part of this. Jones is irreplaceable for Wales. Jenkins isn't getting much game time in Toulon and the hookers aren't really playing that well. In fact neither are most of Wales' first choices across the board, backs and forwards. I think it is going to be a hard November test series for Wales.

@TVaddict - I agree entirely. Mitchell is OK, but injured, though Jarvis has played well since the opening few games of the year. Hope they get him right for the 6N's!

Probably the worst player Wales could lose.
