So you consider yourcomment about drinking on here about Walsh who had a drinking problem in the past and lost his job because of it funny. Strange sense of humour. Sorry man but to me it is no joke to laugh at someone else' s expense. I find that an obnoxious way to get a laugh so leave it.

So I think we have established that the Steve Walsh fan club on this website don't share a sense of humour between them. Well done fanboys.

Congratulations to Steve Walsh on this appointment and on turning his life around. He is a good referee and has been reasonably consistent over a long period of time. I do rate him in my list of five of the top international referees but he is certainly in the top ten listing. Unfortunately, Australia has not produced a decent referee for a very long time.....

Amazing what you can say to denigrate another human being when you can sit anonymously behind a keyboard and send a post you think is funny but really show you up as a right twit. Note the question asking did that really happen? Geez, we will believe anything that reeks of a possible scandal. Our thirst for this kind of knowledge is true or not is unquenchable. How many of us have blemishes in our past we wouldn't want resurrected or are we all Mother Teresa's? Oh hang on we aren't good enough to ever referee a Super 15 Rugby final, so it doesn't matter nobody would be interested.

Walsh makes some valid points which many people who criticise referees forget, and that is, they can only referee the game that the players produce for them to referee. Yes they can be judged on how they deal with what the players dish up, but players attitude to the game is paramount.

Well done on the appointment and I hope all goes well for you Steve.

Steve is really referring to his older self when he said "but not coming down on them like a school teacher" - an approach he has corrected to a large degree. In fact being a good teacher is all about communicating and managing people effectively, regardless of age, and not about strictness. Referring and coaching are the same - that's why so many coaches and refs are former teachers.

Steve had a brilliant young career, a hiccup in the middle, and is now fully back on track. Hope we don't even notice his referring until the game is done.

Agreed. Mr Walsh has improved himself considerably by becoming an Australian - who'd have thought? - although it was understandably traumatic at the time.

Time for us to move on. After all, Mr Walsh has.

In this column the more useful discussion is about what the referee is seeing, or is not seeing.

I would hope the ball doesn't go into the scrum under the Number 8's feet. I've also never been confident of Walsh's ability to read who is doing the dirty in the front rows.

C',mon DaveJ, that sort of comment is lazy, cowardly and unnecessary. Steve Walsh has turned himself around, and his efforts have been recognised and rewarded - a top referee and a decent bloke by all accounts.

DaveJ

Did he do that? I mean, at the time of his suspension?

Well done to Steve Walsh for getting those comments out before swigging from a bottle of whiskey and punching the head off the reporter.
