If either team worried about the ref this much before a match as some of you, then they'd never get to a final.

The making of a great team, in terms of the referee, is being able to adapt to their interpretation quickly rather than sticking solely to your own game plan.

So love or hate Steve Walsh, if you play well and adapt to his decision-making, then you're in with a fantastic chance of victory on Saturday.

And on a side note, from the matches I've watched, he's been picked for being consistent to both teams in the matches he's officiated.

BokAvenger, Kiwis would crack open their steinlager regardless of who was ref. You will never be happy regardless of who is the ref, colour of grass, cloour of shirts etc etc. Chill bro !

How was that Justice ?

With regards to the score, it's a tough one. I have the Sharks 38 - 27 Chiefs but crystal ball a bit cloudy due to the travel the sharks have had to do. If they can get some of the substances the Chinese swimmers are using they shouldn't fade !!!

I'm surprised that 16 y/o Chinese swimmer hasn't dissolved in the pool she is that full of drugs !!!!

@Trinats, listen mate, I don't often ask favours but have 2 today: can you take BokAvenger and straighten him out? (I think that he might be an Ozzie posing as a caricature Saffa ). And second, can you post your prediction for the final ASAP...kids are off to Uni and I need the cash. Thanks mate...if they ever achieve anything, they'll dedicate it to you.

Good Ref! Very fair. But it seems that whoever is chosen some ignorant loser is going to find fault or use it as an excuse for losing. I think that with all of the top refs (SW, CJ, AR, JK, ML,JP,NO, RP, etc), if they ref a side from the same country, that side is at a slight subconscious disadvantage as the ref is overly cautious to be unbiased and "be seen" to be unbiased.

I excuse you as I know you're a kiwi, and tend to not see the full picture. Again, I said "we ironed most of it out"

The key word there being "most", some kiwi traits take a few generations !!!

@Trinuts lol you cant be serious as your leading OZ grown referee is Ian Smith. I rest my case.

A question for my saffa friends am I right in suggesting that Kaplan, Joubert Jonker and Lawrence (Mark of course) all live in Natal Not quite sure if Richards Bay is there. What about Peyper? Where is he from? I note that famous TMO Meuwessen is not from Natal and with the high standard of referees Natal is obviously producing that is understandable.

You jest!

You should have seen Cooperman as a Kid, it took hard work but we iorned most of it out. Maybe you should send over his cousin Zac Giuldford and we could fix him, Althought not sure he'll be premitted into Aus after punching some old Aussie tourist on another drunkin nite out !!!! Not sure if you get that news over in east Sydney !!!

Ramage: Maybe the KIWI rugby boss don't want Aussies refs for a different reason !!! Never know, maybe in years to come we will have an Aussie ref boss and kiwi refs wont be good enough in Aussie eyes !!!

Good on Steve Walsh for making a comeback and be successful again - should be an inspiration to all the @BokWhatevers out there. Instead, we get their lame excuses again. You know, blame the ref, McCaw cheats, and other assorted drivel.

But it seems they have taken it to the next level now: blame the ref before the game has even started. Losers.

A kiwi ref will adjudicate the two best kiwi-coached teams in the S15.

I think the winner here is already known - the New Zealanders and the NZ Diaspora.

Some would have a problem with this, but I don't. It's been done on merit and it's attractive rugby by all.

The problem that many people have on this site is that they fail to accept the fact that Sanza has been forced to drop the neutral referee in favour of merit based refereeing. The reason for this is the sad state of Australian refereeing where apart from Walsh they have nobody who is at the standard to referee a Sanza final. The fact that Walsh is a NZer residing in Austrlia makes no difference as he is considered to be a NZer. Even the IRB recognise this as they have decreed Walsh will not referee NZ in International games. I haven't seen any statement about him refereeing Australia, although the fact he is domiciled here would tend to say he cant referee them either. As for assistant referees the fact the appointments are one each from each country. I could point out, tongue in cheek, that Brown is a South Islander and as one will no doubt have a big chip on his shoulder and have no love of the North Island. Perhaps I could point out that the other assistant is born and bred and educated in Durban which correct me if I'm wrong is Sharks territory. So is Joubert a neutral? If it is good enough to appoint home referees such as Muewessan to be a TMO in a test match I see nothing wrong with the appointment of Williamson as TMO for this match. As for bringing in NH referees I say a huge no to this as this is a SH tournament and it should be those referees who are part of this tournament that should officiate. Just as I do not see SH referees refereeing Heinekin cup matches. Really, the posts asking for so called neutral referees to officiate is a nonsense when the policy is for the best referees to officiate. Had Craig Joubert been appointed, despite he is from Durban, I would have accepted him as I know he is fair and a good referee. The appointments have been made lets support the guys so appointed and wish them well.

I have to agree. As an avid SA and Sharks supporter I have been impressed with Steve Walsh lately . Seems really concise and has it all together. I see him , Joubert and Jaco Pyper as the best refs around at the moment.

I am not too worried at all that he will show bias on way or the other.

Walsh was once an idiot, but am impressed with recent performances. He has also limited checking himself out on the big screen to once per game.

I'm surprised that the touch judges aren't neutral. I understand about not wanting a NH ref, but why not have NH touch judges and TMO to keep it impartial (maybe even ARG ones)?

Jeez, three long haul flights in two weeks, a magnificent rugby team waiting for them to walk into their own back yard AND a kiwi ref!!!!! ...A Sharks win would be a legend in the making. Now here's an underdog to get behind.
