I think a mention for Deon Fourie is in order. Producing a Man of the Match performance while playing in the no.8 position for the first time is quite an achievement. He saved the Stormers a few times this year.

I thought Brussouw deserved at least a mention as his poaching is getting back to expectations. He is unobstrusively getting his mojo back. Jaques Potgieter? Someone needs to take a look at that game again. His infringement count was very high and I would rather have gone with Brussouw or Kolisi.

Incidentally, please can Strauss grow a beard or something, Quite hard to spot now.

For me, Conrad Smith, has been the Super Rugby player of the season. His importance to the Hurricanes revival cannot be understated. He deserves his break before the Rugby Championships.

APV1@ these guys are a lot better than anything the NH can produce.

@philipjfry - I agree about Whitehead, he does look very good, classy centre. Probably be behind JP Nel in the pecking order for the Boks though with Meyer in charge

APV1....

There all medio... and that's coming from a fan of the English league... where dirge and mediocrity is the course of the day, week in week out.

Marcell Coetzee far better then Potgieter who is totally overrated! Willem Albert and Siya Kolisi with Coetzee are the top flankers in SA @ the moment . JP is in Great form and Conrad Smith is already a legend! Julian reminds me of Lomu simply fast and powerful@ DBRowan you got it spot on ! NH rugby just doesn't compare with SH rugby FACT! The lions and rebels would beat leinster and tolouse anyday ! Now my question of the Year ... How in heavens name can't Juan de Jongh make the Bok squad ? He has it all great defence killer sidestep ( did u see Julian Huxley stand still and looked left while De Jongh was on his right) if he could offload like SBW he would have been the best!

ruggaluva says...

@philipjfry that would be conrad Smith minus the speed.... Whitehad does resemble his style of play i will admit BUT how easily was he reeled in by Spies a coupla weeks back ? Spies is fast yes but he also gets thru a heel of a lot of grunt work so for him to chase down a 13 late in the game......

rowan, avp's tongue has been firmly in cheek for about the last 5 month, he doesn't even finish the sentence and someone nibbles! And fyi smith has been the best centre in the world for about the last 5 seasons or so

What bout genius halfbback Will Genia? Does winning matches count or not. Jesus!

There seems to be a genuine lack of appreciation ffor Reds players. Rob Simmons was far better than this LL.Moli guy.

DBRowan says...

AVP1: don`t you dare say "they''re all mediocre" about a list that includes Conrad Smith, Savea, JP Pietersen and Ben Franks on it... You'd be hard pressed to find players in all the NH to match those guys (this coming from an Englishman). Out of those, Smith is arguably the best 13 in the world right now. You just look ignorant right now.

Dan Coles had an awesome game (especially in shutting down SBW) but I still hate you C Smith and J Savea for costing my team the no 1 spot lol well for now anyways, Ill like you guys again come international season....

Tim Whitehead would be in my team; reminding me more and more of Conrad Smith every time I see him play.
