@ Fish

Because the man seeks to maximize his earning potential, that makes him a prostitute?

Pretty shallow thinking IMO but calling him names makes you feel better about yourself, then by all means - proceed!

this showman did not deserve a WC winners medal,it should hv been rockokoko instead of him included in da squad,he ws in realy good form and had done a marvelous service for AB through out the years.it ws very disapointin to see hw ungrateful NZ were to ldave him out for SBW,who had done absolutely nothin for rugby and was in very sloppy form.

If this is true as a rugby fan I'm really disappointed hes leaving.

He is just getting to grips with rugby, especially on attack, and I really wanted to see what he would do against the aussies and boks.

@RugbyLeRoux

We DID have alot of world class centres but now we are going to look bare. Kahui's gone for the season and really doubt how much hes got left in him being injury prone. SBW's going so it means we are back to nonu and smith which is alrite but if they get injured we are in trouble. Current AB'sTamati Ellison and Ben Smith are utility bench players at best, and the only notable centre around the super rugby is Fruean but there are good reason's he hasn't been picked yet.

Too many people at taking this far too personal. SBW is a multi talented sportsman and has the right to move where and to whatever sport he wants. The media have made his professional movements a circus... he has done nothing wrong whatsoever. As a Rugby Union fan I would prefer to have him stay within the game until at least the next world cup, because I feel he has so much to offer, but if he want to try different things then who are we to pass judgement.

Remember it's his job, the contract he had with the Bulldogs was not to his liking and he did not want to be tied to that employer for the length of time the wanted... just like every other individual out there... if you don't like your job you are entitled to move on.

I for one wish him every success in whatever he chooses to do.

Best decision for himself. Make the money while you still look good and are still marketable.

Also I love how people say its all about the ego... This guy in the last 5 years has not put a foot wrong off the park. He's a true role model to the kids and he leaves the contracts to his managers (possibly a little too easily swayed by them). When he dropped 100k for the Christchurch earthquake appeal out of his own back pocket that was class.

He will be laughing all the way to the bank. I will miss his offloading as he was a joy to watch. Kitch. He is a master of the offload. His contribution to the ABs winning the RWC was important. He has done what was asked of him. Personally if I had that much raw talent I would most likely do the same. Hard to say what would have happened had he remained with the ABs. Maybe he might have been another Lomu, Hard to say. Although I don't think it is the last we will see of him in an AB jersey....Wish all the best. Imagine if he became heavyweight boxing champ of the world....lol

Sonny-Bill is definitely talented and a big PR favorite and there's no problem him trying to maximising his income. He needs to be careful with his boxing though as that's not really his natural sport and if he pushes too hard he could get hammered. League in Aus is a big sport and he's definitely in demand there. A big fish in a small worldwide sport. Perhaps he wants to make amends for the way he left league five years ago. He may be finished with the ABs though. Rugby moves on so fast and he could be left behind. The ABs production line will introduce more replacements than he will be able to handle. To really make a legacy as an AB Sonny-Bill needed to stay in rugby in NZ.

I think this is a shame, the guy is starting to become a good rugby player.

As for the money grabbing, I think SBW is none too smart, and knows it, so has appointed managers on a percentage of income.

These guys are the issue, constantly seeking the bigger contract for their main source of income.

Shame of it all, is that he will go down as an OK rugby player, an ok boxer, and a league player who walked out on his mates.

And he could possibly go down as a rugby great.

Bugger, with Nonu back it just got tougher for the Wallabies, don't go Money Bill !!

At least it will put an end to the over the top media "next Lomu", "better than the greatest ever Campese" best player ever to pull on an AB shirt" etc etc. Unless PR start to cover League and Boxing !!!

I disagree Kitch.

You said it yourself - sporting careers can be relatively short. Expecting a world-recognised player such as SBW not to exploit your talents for best reward is just being naive.

I say good luck to him - hope he earns as much money as he can for as long as he can - aslong as he enjoys dojng it.

I agree with FISH and Euskadi, he's got to do what's best for him, rugby will be a worse place without him though. When you've got a career of only around 10 years you need to make the most of it so the 'Money Bill' stuff doesn't wash with me I'm afraid, especially when he's made the All Blacks and won a world cup

RugbyLeRoux says...

Disagree fish, if you were in his position and could get paid to do 3 awesome sports in one relatively short career wouldn't you? As a Boks supporter I hate seeing this guy at his destructive best, NZ have a silly amount of world class centres at the mo!

JACK OF ALL TRADES BUT MASTER OF NONE! He will never go down as a great AB.. just a journeyman and the sooner he moves off the better rugby will be.. he is a good athelete but has an ego to match.. look how he carried on in the game against the highlanders, also a couple of times against the irish, not to mention sulking after the world cup bc he didnt get a start!..and it is this ego that i could see would get the ABs in trouble in a tight test match. When he first came to NZ i said he wouldnt last long...crusaders, cheifs, ABs and now gone! He loves the lime light and i think his ego cant handle not being the centre of attention in rugby and the ABs,.. seeing nonu playing last night, i cant see the ABs missing SBW either.
